Maty Ryan voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for April 2018
For the third time this season, Maty Ryan wins a WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month poll after an outstanding April between the posts for Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Australian number one may have had arguably his worst game of the season in the debacle at Crystal Palace when the whole team collectively lost their minds, but his performance in the draw against Tottenham Hotspur – and in particular that save on the stroke of half time – was a points winning one and he also excelled at Burnley, keeping a clean sheet at one the toughest places to visit in the Premier League. Without him, this season may not have been anywhere near the success it looks like it is going to end up being.
Beram Kayal benefited from Davy Propper’s suspension to start three out of four games in April and that was enough to see him voted into the top three for the first time since February 2016. The Israeli midfielder showed glimpses of the form that made him such a formidable player in the Championship before a terrible run of injuries, particularly in the game against Spurs in which he covered every blade of grass and took blocked two efforts in quick succession with his wedding vegetables.
Third place went to Gaetan Bong who came through a difficult April with his reputation enhance. Relentleesly booed by the Burnley fans who didn’t think he should report being racially abused, he showed what a strong character he is by putting in a man-of-the-match performance at Turf Moor as he nailed down the left back spot ahead of Markus Suttner.
