Albion Photos: Brighton 1-1 Sheffield United, 20/12/20

Photos of the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Sheffield United at the Amex Stadium on Sunday 20th December 2020 which ended in a 1-1 draw.

It was one of the more interesting Brighton results of recent seasons. Sheffield United arrived at the Amex having taken a solitary point from 13 Premier League matches, setting a new record for the worst ever start to a top flight season in English football history in the process.

When the Blades were then forced into playing for nearly an hour with 10 men following John Lundstram’s sending off, the game really should have been there for the taking for Graham Potter’s side.

Instead, they somehow managed to find a way to go 1-0 behind when Jayden Bogle rounded off a counter attack just past the hour mark. Substitute Danny Welbeck reduced Brighton’s blushes a little when he equalised in the last 10 minutes, turning what would have been a complete embarrassment into only a mild embarrassment.

These photos from Brighton 1-1 Sheffield United also capture a little bit of Albion history as the draw meant that the Seagulls equalled the club-record home winless run of 11 games, set in the 1997-98 season.

Brighton last won at the Amex when defeating Arsenal 2-1 back in June, since when Manchester United (twice), Liverpool (twice), Manchester City, Newcastle United, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Burnley, Southampton and now Sheffield United have all left Sussex with something to show for their efforts.

Despite all that, it remains great to see 2,000 fans back at the Amex. And we should probably make the most of it as another national lockdown seems likely in the new year, which would probably mean football reverts to taking place behind closed doors again.
