Albion Photos: Brighton 1-2 Southampton, 07/12/20

Photos of the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton at the Amex Stadium on Monday 7th December 2020 which ended in a 1-2 win for the Saints.

The Amex reopened its turnstiles for competitive football for the first time in nine months. Whilst the final score of Brighton 1-2 Southampton may have been all too familiar, our photos show that off-the-pitch it was a very different experience as a crowd of only 2,000 could attend with full social distancing measures in place.

Brighton began the game brightly, creating three opportunities inside the opening 11 minutes which Danny Welbeck, Aaron Connolly and Lewis Dunk squandered.

Pascal Gross did eventually give the Albion the lead from the penalty spot on the half hour mark, but Brighton took their foot off the gas after going ahead and that proved costly as the Saints battled back.

The Albion’s inability to defend set pieces came to the fore once again when a James Ward-Prowse delivery was headed home by Jannik Vestergaard with just 60 seconds of the first half remaining.

Whatever Graham Potter said to his players at half time did not work and Brighton were woeful in the second half. Southampton’s winner may have arrived with a huge helping hand from VAR, but the Albion could have no complaints really as they got what they deserved to extend their barren run at the Amex to just one win in 18 in 2020.

Whilst there may have been plenty of grumblings about the result, the most important thing was that fans were finally allowed back in the Amex.

We are sure you will agree from these photos sent in by some of the lucky few who were allowed to be there that she looked stunning. Hopefully, we will all be back home soon.
