Brighton and Hove Albion 0-1 Walsall
“New season, same old crap”.
A fairly dull affair at Withdean really was lit up by a ridiculous amount of wasps attacking spectators in the South Stand, a ‘pizza and chips for £4 offer’, and a classic Andy Whing own goal.
The Albion didn’t really threaten in the first half, in fact they didn’t have a chance of note. However, the new signings (Wright, Wright, Thornhill, Crofts, Navarro and Dickinson all played a part) were always going to take time to gel.
That said, Dickinson and Wright really came to life in the second half, showing glimpses of magic that could make this a very interesting season under Slade, the highlight being a shot on the turn from Dickinson 40 yards out shortly before he was subbed. Sadly though, Andy Whing had earlier nodded home what looked like a simple to deal with cross, and the Albion never really looked like getting back into it.
Let’s hope for better at Brentford next week…where we er…ALWAYS lose!
