Glenn Murray, Superstar?
Funny what a difference a couple of weeks makes.
Not long ago we were slating Glenn Murray for seemingly not wanting to be here, for being constantly injured and not clapping the away support at Brentford.
Now, this morning the argus are saying he’s one of the best strikers in the league again, and new manager Gus Poyet has come out and said he’s going nowhere.
Last weekend at St.Mary’s Murray oozed class. His first finish was sublime, the second was the mark of a good centre forward following up the initial attempt, and his second half performance amongst some very direct football definitely couldn’t be considered “lazy”.
In the programme on Wednesday night, Murray said he was happy, praised Poyet, and even apologised for his behaviour at Griffin Park. It was the perfect interview really, but stopped short from saying he no longer wanted a transfer. Was his performance last weekend just an example of him playing up the cameras to get the move away he so desperately wants? Or was it a geniune, committed performance for a club he is hoping to settle down with?
Who knows. Personally, I hope it’s the latter. On his day, Murray is a class act, and if Poyet can keep him fit and keep him sweet, then he’s a fantastic asset in this league. It’s just a shame a big chunk of our support can’t see his talent and get behind him a bit more often.
Hopefully we’ll see more of the revitalised Murray against Leeds tomorrow, and that it’s the supporters clapping him off the pitch after another match winning performance.
