Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Please!!
Now, I write this blog as I’m not going to Wycombe this afternoon, and I’ve had to choose between stories to focus on.
I could have focused on the fact that Liam Dickinson has been dropped for todays game, as that photo in the Sun the other day of someone who looked like him out on the lash was indeed our centre forward. And better than that, Dickinson reportedly phoned in sick for training the next morning. When questioned by Chief Executive Ken Brown on Friday afternoon about this, Dickinson is said to have told him the photo was innocent and was taken at around half 10 after a trip to Wokmania. The Sun photographer however insists the photo was taken in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Oh dear Liam! As a result of the “Worlds most unfortunate sickie ever”, Albion players have been banned from Brighton town centre until further notice. So, expect to see them out in Crawley tonight then….
Anyway, I WASN’T going to write about that incident (although I sort of have, haven’t I?) because there were a couple of much more interesting paragraphs in this mornings Argus:
“Former Manchester United and Norwegian striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also thought to have expressed an interest.
He is currently in charge of the reserves at Old Trafford but lacks the experience of the other leading contenders and would be more of a gamble.”
There was very almost an awkward occurance of cornflakes all over the table as I read this. The scorer of the winning goal in a CHAMPIONS LEAGUE final has potentially applied for the job.
Get him in. He’s the “big name” that would please and fill Withdean. He’s got Sir Alex Ferguson’s backing as a future manager, he’s blessed with footballing brain (aided, no doubt, by spending half his playing career on the subs bench looking to come on and influence a game), he’s got contacts galore (our last signing from Man United reserves was a certain Paul McShane), and he’s spent 12 years learning under the greatest manager in modern times. Darren Ferguson, Paul Ince, and Steve Bruce are just a few of the names you think of when you consider ex Fergie players who have made the grade as a manager, and even Roy Keane has experienced success as a manager to a certain degree.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – manager of Brighton & Hove Albion football club? It’s certainly a big enough name! This mornings press also links him with a move to Rosenburg in Norway, but surely the English leagues offer his best chance of making a name for himself as a manager, having already done it as a player?
Tony Bloom – do it. You know it makes sense. Solskjaer/Poyet is the sort of combination that fans would LOVE to see – sounds a bit better than White and Booker, doesn’t it?

What’s the obsession with this author and users of North Stand Chat pairing big footballing games together?
There is no way Solskjaer and Poyet will work together, both would want to be manager. It’s like suggesting Tom and Jerry to be the management team. It just isn’t going to happen.
The final comment was a bit tongue in cheek, I’d take one or the other and I’m only going by what’s been said in the local press!!
Haven’t seen any “big names” linked together on NSC other than Peter Taylor as number 2, as he’s come out and said it’s a job he’d be happy to do!
