Albion Update
Our second feature on all things Albion at the moment. Read on!
Gus Poyet
So then, new manager, new coaching stuff - and we’re back in the relegation zone.
Poyet needs to be given time though, and I think people seem to understand that. We’ve had some difficult games, and it’s no surprise to see that we’ve only picked up a couple of wins in the league, with a tough run of fixtures including the likes of Leeds, Norwich and Charlton. Last week, against Colchester the performance improved, and by all accounts the same can be said of the game today against Swindon, but it’s looking like lots of changes are going to be needed if we’re going to stay up this season. Bloom and Poyet said at the press conference they didn’t want to do much business in January, but frankly if they don’t do anything we’ll find ourselves in serious trouble come the spring time. Remember the feeling after we’d lost at MK Dons in the spring? We don’t want the same thing to be happening again this time around, so it looks likely that January is going to have to make or break our season.
Falmer
The We are Brighton team took a trip to the stadium site in the week, and were most impressed. The Uni buildings have been demolishd now, and plenty of work has been done digging out the ground ready for the 11,000+ West Stand to be built on. See our feature on the trip here, and our video of the visit here.
In complete contrast to everything going on at Falmer, our home form is crap. Absolutely abysmal. The sooner we get out of the hell hole the better. Nobody seems to have an answer, and our record this season in the league reads Played 11 Won 2 Drawn 1 Lost 8. Shocking isn’t? I doubt there’s a worse record in the league. Oh how we miss the glory days of Rocket Man, championship wins, decent atmosphere and Bobby Zamora.
Zamora
Speaking of Bobby Z, there seems to be some excitement that he’s potentially looking at an England call up just in front of the World Cup. His goal today against Manchester United made it ten for the season (more in the League than a certain Wayne Rooney) and the campaign for him to get picked seems to be growing. What a shame for him then that we haven’t got a game until probably March, by which point he’ll have probably gone back to the form he’s shown for the previous 6 years since leaving us, making Craig Davies look useful in front of goal. Still, who says that online abuse of players can only have a negative effect? Actually, thinking about it, that was me…..
The Team
Yep, just like the last time I wrote an Albion update blog entry, we are absolutely turd. Still, at least we have a new Keeper, in the form of Slovak Peter Brezovan. His debut saw him keep a clean sheet, almost give away a goal with a comedy clearance, give away a penalty and save the resulting kick. Genius.
Albion Moan In
Yep, I’ve remembered the shameless plug of the Albion Moan-In Christmas Special, which you’re probably aware of if you’re reading this. However, if you haven’t heard it, please listen here, or subscribe on Itunes. This month, there’s even an exclusive interview with, er, “Gus Poyet”. Enjoy!
That’s all for now folks. I’ve no idea when the next blog entry will be, so if I don’t get chance to say it again - Have a nice Christmas!
