Silly Season

It’s not happening guys.
Michael Owen to sign for Brighton? You’ve probably heard the rumour by now. Allegedly he knows Tony Bloom through horse racing circles and Bloom has convinced him to see out his career at The Amex. Check the odds on SkyBet – we’re odds on favourites!!!
Reality check time.
Really? REALLY?
Behave yourself. The man has just warmed the bench in the biggest club game in European football. He’s scored one of the greatest goals in England’s history. He’s just got a Premier League winners medal. He’s not going to be trotting out for The Albion against Doncaster Rovers and risking his precious hamstrings.
Come on guys, don’t get carried away. We’ve just signed Will Hoskins, we’re not going to trump that with the signing of one of the most famous players in the country. Even at his age, on a pay as you play deal, he’d still demand a relative fortune in wages. Bloom’s no mug, and neither’s Gus. They’ll be bringing in striker’s with a much lower profile. Is that a problem? Well, I don’t think many of us had heard of Marcos Painter, Inigo Calderon, Ashley Barnes or Liam Bridcutt before they signed, and nobody is doubting their quality.
It’s going to be a long summer….

If Owen is the sort of player who just wants to play football, it could happen? Although it is a far cry. Look at Beckham and Tottenham a few months ago, it seemed he wasn't fussed about wages, he just wanted to play football. Owen seems like that kind of player, if it guarantees him first team football, I doubt he'll brush the offer aside, but it will still need to be one hell of an offer. Fingers crossed. And toes, and anything else you can cross.
