WeAreBrighton.com End of Season Awards
Yes, it’s that time again when we ask Albion fans to help us crown the winners of the eleven presitigous categories in the WeAreBrighton.com End of Season awards. You can vote in full on the polls HERE, but here is a run down of each award for those who are new to this democracy lark
WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Season
The beef of the awards ceremony crowns the best player over the course of the campaign. Liam Bridcutt won the clubs official polls and we’ve got a bumper shortlist of eight for you to choose from. Let’s just hope this years winner doesn’t follow in the footsteps of the previous recipients in the shape of Andrew Crofts and Glenn Murray by celebrating their triumph by leaving the club in the summer
Goal of the Season
We’ve seen some crackers both at The Amex and on the road this season – with free-kicks providing four of the nine nominees. The last two winners have been volleys from distance from Gary Dicker and Liam Bridcutt, and with neither of those two featuring in this years shortlist it guarantees a new name on the trophy for goal of the season
Last Minute Goal of the Season AKA The Will Buckley Award
The Albion have carved out something of a reputation for last minute winners this campaign with no less than five over the course of the season, meaning we’ve set up a brand new category for this years awards to cope with that. Will Buckley holds 80% of the entries in the field, so it shouldn’t be too hard to work out who the favourite for this one is
Own Goal of the Season
It’s another area in which we have begun specialising – own goals. Casper Ankergren and Sexy Pete have seen their own players stick the ball past them five times so far this season, necessitating another brand new category for the best own goal of the season. Chances are it happened on that day at Anfield
Memorable Moment of the Season
Famous away victories have dominated this category and perhaps it is a sign of how poor we have been on the road this season that only one trip features – and that was a 6-1 defeat at Anfield. There are four Amex games on their though as well as the signing of a certain former Spanish international and the infamous FFS Murray moment
Dismissal of the Season
Brighton and Hove Albion are bottom of the Football League Fair Play league for a reason. While we are still two sendings off away from reaching 2009-10′s impressive number, there are still nine to chose from in this wide-open field. And we wonder why other fans see Gus Poyet’s side as potential cheats…
Penalty Miss of the Season
A big improvement in 2011-12 has been that we haven’t missed eight penalties like last season. Infact, the number is only at two with Ryan Harley at Millwall and Ashley Barnes’ recent effort against Reading vying for the, er, honour
Flair Moment of the Season
Having two men from South America as your management team guarantees you will have your fair share of flair moments. The fact that Gus and Tano account for four of the six nominations in this category says everyone, with the other two coming from a couple of other flair places – namely Spain and Columbia. Which, yes, we realise is also in South America
Villain of the Season
This was a particularly hard shortlist to put together which suggests that, surprisingly, we may not have upset too many people this season as a football club. The fact that only four names feature and that the hot favourite is a match official is a good thing in terms of footballing world relations
Sexiest Player of the Season
We spoke to a woman (yes, we do know one) who helped us put together a shortlist for a brand new category – Sexiest Player. It’s important to be diverse and seeing as we are a football club that represents the Gay Capital of the UK, it’s about time the best looking player in the Albion squad was recognised. Seeing as we do have a few lookers
Receding hair of the Season
The height that the West Stand Upper offers fans has given us a new opportunity to spot which Albion players are going a little thin on top. And in honour of that, we have another new award to hand out for the player whose hair has receded most over the course of the season.
The polls for the awards will shut this coming Sunday 29th April at 8pm so please get voting and help us commemorate one of the most memorable seasons in recent Brighton and Hove Albion memory. You can vote HERE
