Anthony Knockaert has signed a new contract with Brighton and Hove Albion tying him to the club until 2021.
His original deal had been due to expire in 2019. That was signed when he became the Albion’s then record signing after arriving for £2.6m from Standard Liege in January 2016. A fee that now appears even more of a bargain than paying £10 to spend a night with Taylor Swift.
Knockaert’s value has soared since then thanks to 16 goals in 52 games and he was the subject of a significant amount of interest from Newcastle United in the summer.
If he continues his form for the rest of the season and Brighton don’t go up then it will be a miracle if there is not serious Premier League interest in him over the summer.
And now, if there is, having another three years to run on his contract should ensure any suitors have to pay handsomely for his services if it comes to that.
Hopefully it won’t come down to that, as Knockaert is one of the most entertaining players to pull on the stripes in Albion history. And well on the way to being one of the most popular.
We’ve got Knockaert…until 2021
