WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month - November 2011

Three wins and two defeats represented a much improved November, especially as one of those losses was at league leaders Southampton with the Albion down to ten men.

There were a number of surprising standout players this month - the "retired" Mauricio Taricco put in one of the performances of the season in the Barnsley win while Casper Ankergren returned from the bench with heroics at Derby.

November looked to be a month were Brighton were getting somewhere back to the best, which is just as well after the trials and tribulations of October.

November 2011 Player of the Month - Gordon Greer (53.57% of the vote)
Gordon Greer becomes the most overwhelming winner of a player-of-the-month award this season having clocked up over half of your votes. The captain has been in superb form all season but really made his mark in November with a set of match winning performances. A first goal for the club came in the 2-0 victory over Barnsley in which he was named sponsors man of the match, and he was at the heart of two superbly dogged defensive victories over Coventry and in particular away at Derby. Had a tough time of it at Southampton but still emerged with credit despite the 3-0 defeat.
Played 5 (5 starts). Scored 1.
Second: Craig Mackail-Smith (19.05% of the vote)
Keeps up his fine record of being in the top three every month so far. Starved of service at Southampton and Watford, his persistence earned the own goal at home to Coventry and he finally scored for the first time since September with a superb strike to give the Albion a 1-0 win at Derby.
Third: Mauricio Taricco (14.29% of the vote)
Despite having retired for the second time in his career in September, Tano was back and had a superb November. An incredible performance against Barnsley followed a solid game at Watford and despite his sending off at Southampton, he secured enough of your votes to come third in the polls

The contenders:
Casper Ankergren - Watched from the bench as Steve Harper completed his loan spell before returning to the side in the win against Coventry and pulling off a superb performance and a clean sheet away at Derby.
Liam Bridcutt - Recovered from the disaster of that Watford game with a set of performances that reaffirmed his value to the club, including an assist for Romain Vincelot against Coventry.
Gordon Greer - The captain continues to impress and put in another good month. Was outstanding against Barnsley and a major part of the dogged defensive displays against Coventry and Derby.
Craig Mackail-Smith - Scored for the first time since September with the winner at Derby and his hard work earned the own goal against Coventry. Has had to make the most of limited service and being asked to play wider than normal at Southampton.
Craig Noone - The standout player so far this season had a quieter month by his high standards but it was still enough to make the list. Looked dangerous in the two games and defenders genuinely don't seem to know how to deal with him.
Mauricio Taricco - Tano put in one of the outstanding performances of the season in playing 90 minutes against Barnsley and was also on hand to help out at Watford. Sent off at Southampton for telling the inept Peter Walton exactly what he thought of his refereeing.
