March
saw the Albion climb to their highest position in the
Championship table of fourth since September with another month in
which they only lost once.
While there were only two
wins, the fact that no team seems to want to seize the
initiative in the race for the play-offs helped as draws
with Doncaster, Cardiff, Nottingham Forest and
Middlesbrough kept the Seagulls in the hunt - while an
injury plagued player finally got a run of games and was
soon gaining plaudits as possibly the best to ever wear
the stripes.
It's not had to work out who
the Player of the Month for March will be
March 2012
Player of the Month - Vicente (77.65% of the
vote) |
|
It
may have taken him the best part of the season
to get fit, but boy was it worth the wait. March
saw many people taking about Vicente as perhaps
being the greatest player they had ever seen
in the stripes. Two goals from the bench
beat Portsmouth and he tore Derby
to pieces including a thirty yard run beating
the whole team before smashing the ball into the
bar from distance. On his day the best player in
the division, hopefully he will
sign for another year at the Amex but if not
then he has been a privilege to watch, as
winning player of the month with over three
quarters of the vote shows. Played
5 (4
starts). Scored 2. |
|
Second: Inigo Calderon (11.76% of the vote)
A good month for the clubs Spaniards as Inigo
Calderon picked up second place. He took
advantage of Gonzalo Jara Reyes' three match ban
for a red card at Blackpool by reclaiming his
right back spot, scoring goals against both
Derby and Middlesbrough at the Amex |
|
Third: Adam El-Abd (4.71% of the vote)
He's been back from injury for four months, and
made the top three in player of the month for
three of them. Fast becoming Mr Consistent and
not looking out of place at Championship level.
If he keeps this form up, then there is a strong
chance we will have an Egyptian international
among the ranks soon |
The
contenders: |
|
Inigo Calderon
- Jara Reyes' three game ban saw him recalled to
the side at right back and the Spaniard
celebrated with two goals in as many home games
as well as some solid defensive displays. |
|
Adam El-Abd
- Missed two games with a virus but has
continued to be one of the star players since
his return from injury, with the defence looking
so much more solid with him alongside Gordon
Greer. |
|
Gordon Greer
- Last months winner continued his superb form
this season with another brilliant month at the
heart of the defence - making the captain one of
the strongest favourites for the converted
player of the season award/ |
|
Kazenga LuaLua - Gus Poyet described
his performance against Derby as his best in an
Albion shirt, and the flying winger showed that
on his day and with injuries behind him he can
be unplayable. |
|
Vicente
- Speaking of unplayable...Vicente was the star
of March. He single handedly defeated Portsmouth
at The Amex before another world class display
against Derby. Could be the difference between
Premier League and Championship football next
season. |
|
Sam Vokes
- The on-loan forward displaced Craig Mackail-Smith
in the side and has started looking potentially
like the target man we've been missing since
Glenn Murray's departure - with goals against
Cardiff and Nottingham Forest. |
