WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month - October 2013
Another October goes by and for the third year running, the
Albion fail to win in the tenth month of the calendar year.
This time
we took three points out of a possible twelve, losing just
the once against Nottingham "we are taking FFP very
seriously" Forest at The Amex.
We
managed a grand total of three goals all month, with two of
them coming from Andrew Crofts and not one striker managing
to net which can hardly come as a surprise given the sides
overreliance on Leonardo Ulloa.
All that
makes it pretty slim picking for Octobers Player of the
Month poll.
October 2013
Player of the Month - Andrew Crofts (44.62% of the
vote)
The
former Norwich man continued his renaissance after a
disappointing first season back at the Albion by
picking up the October player of the month award.
With just three goals scored, Andrew Crofts was
responsible for 33% of them with his strikes in the
3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest and the leveller in
the televised game against Watford. Now an integral
part of the team in that goalscoring midfielder
role, his value is even more to the club now with
Andrea Orlandi out and David Lopez looking like a
completely different player to the one we saw last
season. Played
4 (4 starts). Scored 2.
Second: Keith Hill (21.54% of the vote)
Shock second place for Keith Hill as he becomes the
first non-Albion player to be voted into a top three
since our Player of the Month polls began. The
referee failed to spot Gordon Greer was so far over
the line when clearing that he was infact stood in
Rottingdean to help secure a point against Watford.
Third: Kazenga LuaLua (10.77% of the vote)
Managed only two games before being struck by the
injury curse forcing him onto the sidelines long
term. Was superb against Sheffield Wednesday in the
1-1 draw, tormenting their back line all evening on
and eventually setting up Keith Andrews for the late
equaliser.
The
contenders:
Keith Andrews -
Responsible for 33% of the Albion's goals in
October thanks to his 89th minute equaliser that
rescued a point against struggling Sheffield
Wednesday at the beginning of the month.
Ashley Barnes -
Asked to lead the line in the absence of
Leonardo Ulloa and the lack of any new signing for
the majority of the month. Gave his best performance
against Watford although remained goalless in
October.
Will Buckley -
Sparked into life belatedly in the last 15
minutes of that dire contest at Yeovil and continued
that by being one of the Albion's better players
against Watford in front of the Sky cameras.
Andrew Crofts -
Responsible for the other 66% of Brighton's goals
this month as he continued his return to form since
Oscar's arrival on the dugout, netting in the
Nottingham Forest defeat and grabbing the equaliser
against Watford.
Keith Hill -
Without him, it may have been just two points
from the month after Keith Hill and his linesman
failed to spot Gordon Greer appeared to be about
five feet over the line when clearing against
Watford. Great decision Mr Hill
Tomasz Kuszczak
-
Made a number of fine saves against his former
club Watford to help the Albion provide the
foundation for the Albion to battle back and earn a
point and kept a clean sheet in the visit to Yeovil.
Kazenga LuaLua -
Losing him to injury is a massive blow in terms of
diminishing the Albion's already waning attacking
threat even further. He was excellent against
Sheffield Wednesday and one of the reasons behind
the comeback for a point.
