Another October without a win but did anybody really
expect anything else? It's over four years now since we
last won in the tenth month of the year and this time it
comes off the back of a winless September in the league,
meaning the Albion slipping into a potential relegation
battle.
It's
the strikers who have largely been misfiring with every goal
this month coming from defenders - leaving the stand out
contender for Player of the Season at this early stage Lewis
Dunk as top scorer.
Gordon
Greer and Joe Bennett are the other men to pop up with goals
while David Stockdale's point earning performance against
Rotherham made him look like the £1m goalkeeper we paid for
in the summer.
October 2014
Player of the Month - Lewis Dunk (79.01% of the
vote) |
|
Two Player of the Month
polls conducted, two victories for Lewis Dunk. Dunk
played every minute of October and maintained his
position as the clubs leading goalscorer with
another two goals, earning points away at Watford
and at Huddersfield Town. One of the few success
stories of the campaign so far is how Sami Hyypia
has finally unlocked the potential that the defender
showed fleetingly at the start of the 2011/12 season
and it will come as little surprise to hear Premier
League teams such as West Ham are taking an
interest. Played
5 (5 starts). Scored 2. |
|
Second: Joe Bennett (9.64% of the vote)
Another decent month from the on-loan Aston Villa
left back despite not one clean sheet being kept by
the Albion. His determination to get forward has
made him a reasonably popular player and he even
chipped in with his first goal at home to Rotherham
United. |
|
Third: Paddy McCourt (7.55% of the vote)
Already a cult hero at the club, the Derry Pele
started just the one game in October away at
Tottenham but did enough to take third place. His
ability to beat a man with zero pace led to a number
of goal scoring opportunities which needless to say
weren't taking by the misfiring front line. |
The
contenders: |
|
Joe Bennett
-
Played a part in a number of decent defensive
showings and rounded it off with a decent strike to
open the scoring in the home game against Rotherham
United at the end of the month. |
|
Lewis Dunk
- Continued his brilliant start to the season
with another two goals to earn points at Watford and
Huddersfield. Not surprising to hear he has Premier
League clubs sniffing around given his outstanding
form so far. |
|
Gordon Greer
-
Headed the consolation against Middlesbrough and
another month of decent work from the captain,
including nearly one of the own goals of the season
at home against Rotherham. |
|
Kazenga LuaLua
- Red carded at Huddersfield but a decent month
other than that providing most of the his team mates
best attacking opportunities when coming off the
bench at Watford and home to Middlesbrough. |
|
Paddy McCourt
- Already a fans favourite despite having done,
er, not a lot in his Brighton career. His beard and
constant drunken appearance is a joy to behold, as
are his bewitching runs which lit up an otherwise
pretty dull month. |
|
David Stockdale
-
Slow to start his Albion career but much improved in
October and showed just why the club had parted with
£1m for him with a point earning display at home
against Rotherham United. |
