Transfer Window Round Up - January 2011

If it 'aint broke, don't fix it they say and that appears to be exactly the mantra that Gus Poyet has adopted for the League One topping Albion in the January transfer window.

Only one player comes in and that is Craig Noone as Brighton take advantage of Plymouth's financial woes to snap up the man who was the best player on the pitch when we went to Home Park back in September.

Andy Whing's loan spell at Leyton Orient turns into a permanent move but perhaps most importantly was the rejection of Norwich City's £1.5m bid of Elliott Bennett. The winger may have put in a subsequent transfer request but he is still here which has to be the best bit of business the club could have done.

OUT:
Andy Whing - Leyton Orient
The 2008-09 Player of the Season's hard working but limited approach was never going to fit in to what Gus Poyet wanted. He has hardly featured since the arrival of Inigo Calderon and it's no surprise to see the club release him to sign a permanent deal at Leyton Orient.

IN:
Craig Noone - Plymouth Argyle
The best player on the park when we won 2-0 away at Plymouth in September and that obviously stuck in Gus' mind as he has now signed the wideman for £250,000. A tricky player with pace to burn, him and Bennett down the flanks is a frightening proposition.

Rating:

  • Craig Noone arrives for £250,000 which could look like a bargain in time.
  • Elliott Bennett is still a Brighton and Hove Albion player.

  • With Whing gone and McNulty out on loan, could we have done with some full back cover?
