Gordon Greer voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for November 2011
Gordon Greer becomes our most overwhelming winner of a WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month award so far this season having clocked up over half of the votes to take the prize for November.
The captain has been in superb form all season, but really he made his mark with a set of match winning performances. A first goal for the club came in the 2-0 victory over Barnsley in which he was named sponsors man of the match and he was at the heart of two superbly dogged defensive victories over Coventry and in particular away at Derby. Greer had a tough time of it away at Southampton, but he still managed to be one of the few players to emerge with credit despite the 3-0 defeat.
Craig Mackail-Smith keeps up his fine record of being in the top three every month so far with another second place to go with the same finish in our September Player of the Month. Starved of service at Watford and Southampton were he was bizarely shunted out wide to accommodate Billy Paynter, it was his persistence that earned the own goal at home to Coventry and he finally scored for the first time since September with a superb strike to give the Albion a 1-0 win at Derby.
Mauricio Taricco took third spot which was all the more remarkable given the fact that he had retired for the second time in his career in September. An incredible performance against Barnsley followed a solid outing at Watford and his sending off at Southampton was more than justified for telling the incompotent Peter Walton exactly what he thought of him. Hopefully it isn’t the last we’ve seen of Tano on the pitch.
