Maty Ryan voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for October 2018
Maty Ryan’s outstanding October form has already seen him become the first ever Brighton and Hove Albion player to win a PFA Player of the Month award – and now he can add the WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month to it.
Ryan finished with exactly the same share of the vote as Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the PFA Award but he was given the award on the basis that he had played more Premier League minutes than Aubameyang.
There was no need to base our supporters poll on minutes played as Ryan ran away with it, taking a huge 57.84% of the vote to secure the biggest winning margin of the season so far, beating Beram Kayal into second with Glenn Murray back in third.
The Australian number one recorded three clean sheets in October as the Albion won 1-0 in all three of their games against West Ham United, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. His most impressive showing of the three was in the victory over Wolves where he produced three second half saves that single handedly secured the three points against Nuno Espírito Santo’s newly promoted side.
Injuries to firstly Dale Stephens and then Davy Propper presented Kayal with the chance for a rare run of starts but the Israeli midfielder has grasped the opportunity with both hands. He cleverly deflected Jose Izquierdo’s goalbound shot past Martin Dúbravka for the only goal in the win at St James’ Park and has offered something that neither Stephens or Propper do as a midfielder who looks to get the ball actually run with it.
After finishing second in our September Player of the Month poll, Murray has to settle for third in October just 4% behind Kayal. The veteran striker had a memorable month, scoring against West Ham and Wolves to become only the second player to hit a century of Brighton goals in peacetime football for the Albion and he was stretchered off with concussion in the win at Newcastle.
Maty Ryan – 57.84%
Beram Kayal – 17.48%
Glenn Murray – 13.62%
Shane Duffy – 6.94%
Lewis Dunk – 2.57%
Bruno – 1.54%
