Leonardo Ulloa voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for March 2013
Who’s that man from Argentina? Well, he is now the holder of the biggest winning margin in a WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month poll having racked up nearly 90% of the votes to win March’s prize.
He bagged seven goals – a hat-trick at home to Huddersfield Town, one at Barnsley, one at Nottingham Forest and of course that brace against Crystal Palace that left every Albion fan feeling Glad Ulloa. It’s not just goals he has brought since his arrival from Almería in January though – off the ball he has been superb and in the air he wins over 75% of the headers he challenges for. We finally have a replacement for Glenn Murray – and just think where we might be had he have been here from August?
There was a fourth successive month in the top three for David Lopez in another month in which he impressed. He was on target from the penalty spot at home to Huddersfield and scored a stunning free-kick against Crystal Palace on the stroke of half time to help set up victory for the Albion.
Third went to Tomasz Kuszczak who’s importance was really hammered home in the game he missed away at Notting Forest when two points and a ball got away through Casper Ankergren’s legs in a 2-2 draw. Had he have played that day, it would have been a 2-1 wn for the Albion. Aside from that debacle at the City Ground, he made some vital saves in the draw at Bristol City and in preventing a first half Matt Upson own goal that could have led the Palace game to turn out very differently.
