Andrea Orlandi voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for April 2013
Given how incredible he has been since his arrival from Swansea City in the summer, it is astounding that this is the first time Andrea Orlandi has won a WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month award and only the second occasion that he has finished in the top three.
It’s well a well deserved award for April though as he had a hugely productive month, scoring goals in the victories away at Middlesbrough and in the home rout against Blackpool.
Liam Bridcutt may get all the plaudits for his work defensively in the centre of midfield, but Orlandi deserves equal amounts of praise for what he brings to the attacking side of the game having been involved in 17 games through either assisting or scoring so far this season. It was no coincidence that the only game the Albion drew a blank in in April was the only one he missed at home to Charlton Athletic.
David Lopez finished in the top three for a remarkable fifth month in a row, stretching right the way back to our November Player of the Month. That serves to highlight the fact he has been the Albion’s most consistent playwr this season, scoring another two goals in April including a memorable lob away at Middlesbrough.
On-loan Stoke City defender Matthew Upson rounds off the top three having helped the Seagulls to record three clean sheets in April and confirm their place as the side with the best defensive record in the Championship. He even managed to weigh in with a goal at home to Blackpool, highlighting the attacking prowess that led to him being England’s top scorer at the last World Cup.
