For the fourth year running, Brighton and Hove Albion failed to win a game in October, drawing three times and losing once as Oscar Garcia’s sides hopes of winning promotion took a bit of a dent.
We scored only three times in the 1-1 draws with Sheffield Wednesday and Watford and in a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham “We are taking Financial Fair Play very seriously” Forest.
Andrew Crofts netted two of those as he continued his fine start to the season with Keith Andrews the other scorer, netting his first goal for the club in the draw with Wednesday. Not one striker managed to find the back of the net which just goes to show how reliant we currently are on Leonardo Ulloa.
For the first time ever, we also have a non-Brighton representative on the list as referee Keith Hill is in the frame for the prize for a superb piece of officiating that saw him miss a Watford effort that was at least five yards over the line before Gordon Greer kicked it out of the goal, helping to ensure the Albion took a point from the Hornets in the process.
Keith Andrews
He was responsible for 33% of the Albion’s goals in October thanks to his 89th minute equaliser that rescued a point against struggling Sheffield Wednesday at the beginning of the month.
Ashley Barnes
Asked to lead the line for the majority of October in the absence of Leonardo Ulloa and the lack of any new signing. He failed to score his gave one of his best performances of the season in the draw with Watford.
Will Buckley
Sparked into life belatedly in the last 15 minutes of that dire 0-0 draw away at Yeovil Town and he continued that form in the next game against Watford by being one of the Albion’s better players in front of the Sky cameras.
Andrew Crofts
The midfielder was responsible for the other 66% of Brighton’s goals this month as he continued his return to form since Oscar’s arrival on the dugout, netting in the Nottingham Forest defeat and grabbing the equaliser against Watford.
Keith Hill
Without him, it may have been just two points from the month after Keith Hill and his linesman failed to spot that Gordon Greer appeared to be about five feet over the line when clearing a shot that had blatantly gone in against Watford. Great decision, Mr Hill.
Tomasz Kuszczak
Made a number of fine saves against his former club Watford to ensure the Albion weren’t completely out of the game by the time Crofts popped up with his second half equaliser. He also impressed in recording a clean sheet in the draw away at Yeovil.
Kazenga LuaLua
Losing him to injury is a massive blow in terms of diminishing the Albion’s already waning attacking threat even further. He was excellent against Sheffield Wednesday and one of the main reasons behind the late comeback for a point.
