Brighton FPL Gameweek 28: Lallana can inflict hell on his return to Saints
Brighton were incredibly unlucky once again in their latest defeat to Leicester City in FPL gameweek 27 with Adam Lallana the only Seagulls player who managed to find the net against the Foxes.
That was not for the want of trying though; Graham Potter’s side fashioned plenty of opportunities to earn FPL points and that means that Albion players will remain targets for fantasy managers.
Brighton have had 73 attempts on goal in the last four gameweeks. Only Manchester City and Chelsea have registered more in that period, and only City can better the Albion’s 51 shots in the box.
City have played two additional games in this period and Chelsea have had an extra fixture, which highlights the attacking opportunities Brighton are consistently creating.
Adam Lallana (£6.2 million) was central to the attacking threat posed by Brighton in their 2-1 defeat to Leicester which will put him firmly on the radars of FPL managers.
Not only did Lallana score his first goal in Albion colours, but he also had the most penalty area touches out of all Brighton players with five and he was top for goal attempts with four. Neal Maupay (£6.1 million), Lewis Dunk (£4.9 million) and Joel Veltman (£4.3 million) all had one effort each.
Lallana registered a chance every 22 minutes in gameweek 27 against a decent Leicester defence. That bodes well for gameweek 28’s fixture away at Southampton, who have conceded in nine of their last 10 Premier League matches.
In the build-up to gameweek 28’s deadline, FPL managers also need to keep one eye on blank gameweek 29 which is approaching at speed. Brighton are one of only eight teams with a fixture in gameweek 29, so investing in their assets ahead of two decent games would be wise.
After taking on a Southampton side who have won only once since gameweek 22 and who will be without Danny Ings (£8.4 million), Brighton face Newcastle United who have who have only won once in the same period.
Brighton have good been defensively for weeks now which would make looking at their back five a shrewd decision. The Albion have conceded the least amount of attempts on goal and shots in the box in in the league in the last four gameweeks.
The delay in Tariq Lamptey’s (£4.6 million) return from injury bodes well for the security of starts for Veltman, who has been in such good form recently as to be voted as WAB Player of the Month for February.
Veltman has registered 13 penalty area touches in the last four weeks and is four clear of his nearest defensive team mate Dan Burn (£4.2 million) who sits on nine. Veltman is also the only Brighton defender to score a goal in this period.
Captain Fantastic
With his two goal and double assist haul in gameweek 27, Harry Kane (£11.3 million) will be a popular captain choice in FPL ahead of the game against Arsenal.
Kane has scored 11 goals and created two assists in 12 North London derbies. Alongside team-mate Son Heung-Min (£9.6 million), the pair now hold the record for Premier League goal combinations, combining 14 times.
Manchester United’s victory against City in the derby will have boosted the Red Devils’ confidence. Bruno Fernandes (£11.5 million) was one of the most popular transfers out ahead of last week’s deadline.
However, in a fixture against a West Ham side who will be without their loanee Jesse Lingard (£6.1 million) who is ineligible to play against his parent club, Fernandes may just be able to take advantage of the Hammers loss of their most in-form player.
