Brighton FPL Gameweek 14: Lamptey can haunt the Hammers
Whilst there may have been some discontent in the stands at the Amex following Brighton 0-0 The Leeds United, FPL managers were delighted to see their Brighton defensive assets including Tariq Lamptey and Robert Sanchez returning points.
The relentless December schedule means that gameweek 14 occurs in midweek. The Albion travel to West Ham United and FPL managers do not have long to reorganise their troops ahead of the Tuesday deadline.
Sanchez (£4.6 million) will be on plenty of peoples’ minds as he was straight back into the starting XI following his suspension, recording a clean sheet and registering an additional point for owners as a result of the four saves made.
The Brighton shot stopper also registered two points in the Bonus Points System tables for pass completion, as well as four points for recoveries.
On paper, a trip to the London Stadium is challenging for goalkeepers. FPL managers should though keep the faith with Sanchez given his eight point return against The Leeds United, as well as key Hammers players Said Benramha (£6.3 million) and Aaron Cresswell (£5.5 million) being withdrawn because of potential injuries against Manchester City on Sunday.
Lamptey (£4.4 million) meanwhile continued to impress in gameweek 13 having been tipped to do so alongside Marc Cucurella. Lamptey was solid defensively, picking up the four clean sheet points as Brighton recorded their shutout and his attacking stats also look encouraging for FPL managers.
He was joint-second across the gameweek for chances created with five. Encouragingly, Pascal Gross (£5.9 million) also ranked highly with four chances created, level with Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan (£7.2 million).
Alongside Newcastle, West Ham conceded the most shots on target across Saturday and Sunday with eight – something Brighton could capitalise on at a venue where they are yet to lose.
Captain Fantastic
Mohamed Salah (£13.0 million) returned another assist in Gameweek 13. However, with teammate Diogo Jota (£7.7 million) scoring a brace, FPL managers will be starting to question whether it might be best to try moving the armband away from the Egyptian for Gameweek 14.
Normally a Merseyside derby is a game that FPL managers might look to avoid putting their captain’s armband in.
However, with Salah, Sadio Mane (£12 million) and Jota currently three of the league’s four top goal scorers, the Liverpool trio could all be good captaincy options against an Everton side who have failed to win in the last seven gameweeks.
The unexpected rest given to Spurs players because of the postponement of Sunday’s match at Burnley could make their assets a good option against Brentford, with Harry Kane (£12.3 million) and Son Heung-Min (£10.4 million) having less minutes in their legs than other FPL options.
