Brighton FPL Gameweek 14: March can assist making Potter blue
Brighton may have been defeated in FPL Gameweek 13 away at champions Manchester City but there were still plenty of positives for Seagulls supporters, including another assist for Solly March.
A lot of attention has focussed on March’s lack of goals so far this season despite having plenty of opportunities to score. In fact, you have to go back to November 2020 to find the last time he found the back of the net in the Premier League.
Whilst March’s scoring record isn’t great, he is flying when it comes to assists. Teeing up Leandro Trossard for the Brighton consolation at Man City gave March his fourth of the season, returning further points for FPL managers who have taken the plunge on his relatively cheap £5 million price tag.
Four assists puts March joint-top for the Albion alongside Danny Welbeck (£6.5 million). Dat Guy ranks fifth in the FPL ICT Index across all forwards, meaning that he is the fifth-most creative.
Welbeck is also seventh amongst forwards for threat. Owned by just 1.4 percent of the game and with matches against Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa to come ahead of the World Cup, he could be a good differential pick.
Only one Brighton player can better Welbeck’s 25 goal attempts – Leandro Trossard (£6.8 million) who has 28. The Vampire of Genk scored his sixth of the campaign against City, continuing his impressive form across the 2022-23 campaign so far.
Alongside three others, Trossard is currently the top goal scoring midfielder in the Premier League this season. In FPL terms, his 66 points can only be bettered by Kevin De Bruyne (£12.3 million) and Miguel Almiron (£5.4 million) within this position.
March, Welbeck, Trossard and the rest of their Brighton teammates have extra motivation going into Gameweek 14. Graham Potter returns to the Amex for the first time, giving the Albion an opportunity to bloody the nose of their former head coach and the five members of staff who followed him to Stamford Bridge.
Potter is yet to lose as Chelsea manager. Roberto De Zerbi is yet to win as Brighton boss. If the football scriptwriters have been saving Potter’s first defeat for the same afternoon as De Zerbi’s first victory, then that would be a very popular outcome amongst Seagulls supporters – and FPL managers backing Albion assets.
And even if you do not think Brighton capable of getting one over their former boss, matches away at managerless Wolves followed by Aston Villa at the Amex should present opportunities for good FPL points returns before the winter break.
Captain Fantastic
Erling Haaland (£12.2 million) scored twice against Brighton last weekend and will no doubt be the most popular captain again in Gameweek 14. The Man City forward is FPL’s top scorer with 117 points, failing to return just once so far this season.
Arsenal will likely offer FPL managers several good captaincy options for the visit of Nottingham Forest. Bukayo Saka (£7.9 million) and Gabriel Jesus (£8.0 million) both look good choices.
Saka has returned in three of his last four matches against newly promoted sides, with Jesus returning 19 points in his last three matches at the Emirates.
