Lewis Dunk voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for August 2017
One of the more interesting subplots to Brighton and Hove Albion’s first season in the Premier League will be whether Lewis Dunk can live up to his undoubted potential and force his way into the England squad.
He’s made a good start to that quest, beginning the 2017-18 season in style to be voted our WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for August 2017.
It wasn’t an easy start to life in the top flight as the Albion took on title favourites Manchester City and the champions of two seasons ago, Leicester City. Both those games ended in 2-0 defeats with Dunk even managing to score in the encounter with Pep Guardiola’s galacticos, although admittedly it was part his own goalkeeper Maty Ryan.
Shane Duffy is already a fully fledged international but just like his defensive partner Dunk, he has begun the season in excellent form to be voted into second place. Keeping goals out will go a long way to ensuring the Albion survive in this division and with those two in defence and in the form that they’ve started the campaign in, there is every chance this won’t be merely a fleeting visit to the top flight.
There were plenty of people wondering whether 36 year old right Bruno would be able to cope with some of the best wingers in the world. On the evidence of August, yes he can. The Albion captain may not have been able to be at his swashbuckling best in terms of rampaging performance, but he has done a solid job defensively in the first month of the season.
Lewis Dunk – 47.96%
Shane Duffy – 34.48%
Bruno – 12.22%
Markus Suttner – 4.07%
Dale Stephens – 0.9%
