Brighton FPL Gameweek 24: March points rate a worthy investment
As February gives way to March, FPL managers will have a lot of strategic decisions to make. There are blank and double gameweeks already announced, seven games to be rescheduled and several more future fixtures at risk of postponement.
Brighton are one of the sides likely to be impacted by it all. The Seagulls have a blank in gameweek 25 because Newcastle United are in the League Cup final.
Gameweek 27 is a confirmed double with the visit of Crystal Palace to the Amex squeezed in. Gameweek 28 could be a blank depending on FA Cup results. And that trip to the Toon and another away game at Bournemouth still need to be squeezed in somewhere.
The blank gameweek 25 means FPL managers may consider Albion players not worth investing in right now as it will worsen the problem of not being able to field a full XI at that time.
However, this means that managers risk missing out on a good opportunity for FPL points against Fulham in Gameweek 24.
Solly keeps Marching
Solly March (£5.1 million) scored the Albion’s goal in their 1-1 draw at Palace in gameweek 23 at a time when many FPL managers have been favouring team-mate Kaoru Mitoma (£5.3 million) for their squads.
The attraction of Mitoma is obvious. He has netted some vitally important last minute goals in recent weeks and has been crowned WAB Player of the Month for January, December and November.
It is March though who is top for attacking returns across the Brighton team since the gameweek 17 restart. In this period, he has registered seven of them.
March is also Brighton’s leading goal scorer over this time with five. The midfielder’s rate of 8.4 points per start since gameweek 17 is bettered by only six outfield players in the game – three of whom only have one start.
March’s number is 1.9 points better than Erling Haaland (£12.2 million), 2.4 more than Harry Kane (£11.8 million) and 2.6 superior to Bukayo Saka (£8.3 million).
For expected stats, March also ranks best at Brighton. Since gameweek 17, he is the Seagulls’ number one for expected goals (xG), expected assists (xA) and expected goal involvement (xGI).
This suggests that if Brighton score against Fulham at the weekend, March will likely be part of it either through netting himself or setting up a teammate. Probably Mitoma.
Captain Fantastic
Gameweek 24 is a standard week where every team plays just once. Haaland was withdrawn at half time against Aston Villa on Sunday after a kick.
If he is available for Manchester City clash with Nottingham Forest, he will be a highly popular captaincy pick. Haaland registered 17 points against them in the reverse fixture, with three goals and three bonuses.
Marcus Rashford (£7.3 million) has an excellent record at Old Trafford so far this season. The midfielder has returned 12 goals and four assists in 2022-23, with nine and three of these coming at home.
Rashford’s recent form has seen him score eight goals and claim two assists since gameweek 17. Manchester United face relegation threatened Leicester City at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday.
