Brighton FPL Gameweek 26: Stick with Maupay for more returns
Brighton returned to action in Fantasy Premier League gameweek 26 with a double gameweek and that resulted in Neal Maupay being one of the most transferred in players across the whole of FPL.
Those who backed Maupay (£6.6 million) were rewarded by him scoring a quite spectacular opening goal in the Albion’s 2-0 win at Watford on Saturday.
Other popular Brighton assets also delivered at Vicarage Road. Seagulls defenders picked up clean sheet points whilst Tariq Lamptey (£4.5 million) claimed an assist for Maupay’s strike and Adam Webster (£4.4 million) got on the scoresheet with Brighton’s second.
The only real negative across the double gameweek was Lewis Dunk (£4.8 million) being controversially sent off thanks to a combination of Manchester United hounding referee Peter Bankes and an unnecessary VAR intervention. Dunk now misses the gameweek 26 fixture at home to Burnley.
Many managers who introduced Maupay to their teams for the Albion’s double gameweek 25 would have done so with the intention of transferring him straight out one week later in favour of a forward at a club who have a double in gameweek 26.
Maupay’s underlying stats however suggest he is an asset worth holding onto. Maupay averages 4.40 FPL points per match for Brighton against Burnley, having returned in three of the five Premier League games he has played against them.
His recent rhythm has been equally impressive with returns in seven of his last 10 matches. Since gameweek 14, his four goals is the joint-best amongst forwards alongside premium assets Harry Kane (£12.2 million) and Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5 million).
Maupay is also in the top four forwards for assists in this period, feeding into an overall record of 48 FPL points since Gameweek 14, which makes him the joint highest-scoring forward in the game.
For FPL managers keen to target a huge Brighton differential, Pascal Gross (£5.7 million) could be that man as he is owned by just 0.3 percent of the game.
Gross has returned in both of his last two meetings with Burnley, with two assists and a bonus point. However, his minutes have been limited this season, with the midfielder substituted in eight of his 14 appearances.
Captain Fantastic
Double gameweek players will be key captaincy targets this week. With Liverpool playing at home to Norwich City and 1996 Coca Cola Cup runners up The Leeds United, Mohamad Salah (£13.0 million) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5 million) will likely be two of the most popular choices.
Rather than who to captain this week, the key decision for many FPL managers will be which – if any – chip they should use.
For managers still holding the Triple Captain chip, this could be the weekend to deploy it. Those who have recently played their second Wildcard could find it a good moment to play the Bench Boost.
As it is only possible to have one chip active at a time, managers should think very carefully about this decision.
