Ezequeil Schelotto voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for January 2018
Ezequiel Schelotto is living proof that you should never write off a player based on a couple of appearances in a counntry in which he has never played football before.
Three months ago there were plenty of Albion fans who were describing him as the worst signing Chris Hughton had ever made and even as recently as away at Spurs in December, he was taking a huge amount of criticism for what can only be described as a wildly entertaining opening 10 minutes away at Tottenham Hotspur
Fast forward a month and he is our WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for January, largely based on his exploits in the 4-0 defeat against Chelsea in which he looked the second best player on the pitch after Eden Hazard. Compliments don’t come any bigger than that and it is that sort of form that has led to him ousting captain Bruno as Hughton’s first choice at right back.
Glenn Murray had his best ever month as a Premier League player to take second place, scoring four times in six games to earn FA Cup wins over Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough and vital draws in the league against Bournemouth and Southampton.
It can’t have been an easy month off the pitch for Gaetan Bong, who was subjected to apparent racist abuse by Jay Rodriguez in the 2-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion. On the pitch though he has been in exemplary form since replacing Markus Suttner after Hughton’s ill fated dalliance with a 3-5-2 formation for the hammering against Chelsea and that was enough to secure third place.
