Lewis Dunk voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for March 2018

It was one of our tightest WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month polls ever with just 4% of the vote covering the top three as Lewis Dunk did just about enough to see off the challenges of Maty Ryan and Davy Propper to take the crown for March 2018.

Dunk had arguably his best game of the season in the opening match of March, netting at the right end after four own goals to open the scoring against Arsenal and going on to keep a strike force costing nearly £100m quiet for the remainder of the game.

He then excelled in the FA Cup Quarter Final away at Manchester United as the Albion came close to making the last four of the competition for the only the second time in the clubs history before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford. Had the Albion managed to shock Jose Mourinho’s multi millionaies, Dunk could have become the first player to lead Brighton out at Wembley on two spearate occasions after he skippering the team for the league defeat against Tottenham Hotspur there back in December.

For the second month running we were treated to aquite brilliant penalty save from Maty Ryan as he kept the scoreline somewhat respectable when keeping out Wayne Rooney’s spot kick in the 2-0 defeat away at Everton. The Australian number one also pulled off some vital saves in the win over Arsenal which helped him take second spot ahead of Davy Propper.

It’s taken a while for the contributions of Propper to be recognised by some elements of the Albion fan base but the Dutch midfielder finally seems to winning people round as he cracked the top three for the second time this season. His importance in March became particularly clear after Dale Stephens “minor hamstring injury” ruled him out for virtually the entire month, with much of the onus in the engine room falling on Propper as a result.
