Lewis Dunk voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for October 2017
Gareth Southgate might not rate him enough yet to pick him for England, but Lewis Dunk has had another superb month at the heart of the defence as he held off the challenge of Pascal Gross by just over 1% to be voted our WeAreBrighton.com October Player of the Month.
Dunk was a one man blocking machine in the months opening game against an Arsenal side who never really got out of second gear during their 2-0 victory at the Emirates.
He went onto play a pivotal role in securing home points against Everton and Southampton and as for the win at West Ham, Slaven Bilic telling his team to consistently cross the ball into the box towards a defender who would head a brick if you tossed it up in front of him was easily the strangest tactical decision we’ll see all season.
Gross finished as runner up for the second month in succession with the German midfielder playing apart in another three goals to be behind only Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in the Premier League assists chart. Particularly promising in October was the further development of his understanding link up with Glenn Murray, for whom he provided goals in the West Ham and Southampton games.
It was Murray himself who came third as he belatedly got his account up and running for the season, netting twice at the London Stadium in a man-of-the-match showing against the Hammers and then clinically burying a header in trademark fashion in the Southampton game.
Lewis Dunk – 30.77%
Pascal Gross – 29.06%
Glenn Murray – 20.09%
Shane Duffy – 11.97%
