Wayne Bridge voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for September 2012
As if the mass improvement in Brighton and Hove Albion’s backline so far this season haven’t been evident enough, all three of the top positions in our WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month award for September 212 are filled by members of the back five.
Winning the poll was Wayne Bridge who was, having finished third in our August Player of the Month poll, again absolutely superb at left back. He played a huge part in the victories at Burnley and Millwall and clean sheets against Watford and Sheffield Wednesday, even netting his second goal of the campaign versus the Owls. With John Terry now retired from international duty and therefore any awkward moments between the two avoidable, it is surely not that much of a leap of imagination to imagine him back in the England fold given how bare the cupboard is when it comes to the countries left back options.
It was a dead heat for second, so we turned to the We Are Brighton Twitter for a five minute vote which gave the runners up spot to Tomasz Kuszczak. Two fantastic saves from Chris Wood at Millwall helped secure victory at The Den and his form has been such that he could line up for Poland against England in Warsaw next month.
Despite missing the last game of the month injured, last months winner Bruno still did enough to take third place in the vote. All that is missing from his game is a goal but it is not for want of trying – it’s only a matter of time before his marauding runs forward are rewarded. He remains a class act at the back.
Wayne Bridge – 39.68%
Tomasz Kuszczak – 15.87%
Bruno – 15.87%
Craig Mackail-Smith – 14.29%
Liam Bridcutt – 7.94%
Will Buckley – 6.35%
