Where’s Percy Tau? The February 2019 Edition

If you are a fan of Brighton and Hove Albion on Facebook, then you can’t have failed to notice the overriding question that gets asked on virtually every single update the club offers – Where’s Percy Tau?

Big eGaming event being held at the Amex – where’s Percy Tau? An allocation of only 2,000 tickets for Millwall away in the FA Cup – where’s Percy Tau? Chris Hughton has plenty of respect for Frank Lampard as both a player and a manager – where’s Percy Tau? Under 23s taking on Eastbourne Town in the Sussex Senior Cup – where’s Percy Tau?

Our new-found South African followers don’t seem to have quite grasped the concept yet that Percy Tau can’t actually play for the Albion. He doesn’t qualify for a work permit and won’t do for at least another year unless South Africa have an improbable rise into the top 50 of the FIFA World Rankings.

That’s why he is currently on-loan at Union Saint Gilloise, Tony Bloom’s other club in the Belgian second tier. Not that it stops the endless comments asking where he is, suggesting that he has to move to Germany of Spain because they are more competitive or hailing him as a future Ballon d’Or winner on a similar level to Lionel Messi or Mo Salah.

In honour of the relentless enthusiasm of Tau’s South African worshippers, we’ve decided to run a monthly feature that tots up the number of Tau related comments emanating from the southern hemisphere as well as picking out some of the best ones.

And February has been an absolute belter. No wins in the Premier League and an alarming slide towards to the relegation zone might be a cause for concern, but it has at least given our South African friends plenty of ammunition and new-found enthusiasm to hail Tau as the man who can save the Albion’s season. If only we knew where he is.

The five best Percy Tau comments…

You guys bought one of our best players in SA and sent him out on loan to Belgium for pete’s sake…Percy Tau would single handedendly change your fortunes around
It’s doubtful that Tau would single handedly turn the Albion’s season around, but Khulekani Mkhize gains huge respect for using the very underrated phrase of “for Pete’s sake”. When was the last time you ever heard a British person who wasn’t starring in Downton Abbey mutter it, let alone a South African? Fantastic.

as long as we don’t get relegated and we are able to perticipate in the premier league next season all will be well. the return of percy tau will give us a huge boost that we might end up finishing top 6. he is the lion of juda, nothing is impossible to him
Can’t fault the optimism of Phakisho Thaba, who believes that Tau’s return next season – which probably won’t actually happen as he still won’t qualify for a work permit – will turn us from relegation candidates to a side pushing for the top six.

Can somebody tell this stupid coach to bring Percy Tau before his relegated
That optimism isn’t shared by StunningGuy Mabulala Dlezi who thinks Chris Hughton is stupid and that without Tau, we’re going to end up relegated. With that sort of negative attitude, Mabulala fits in quite well with some sections of the Albion support actually.

how is a guy compared to the likes of salah and messi not good enough? and its Brighton ffs and not Bareclona, I am good enough to play for Brighton and albinos so that makes Percy good enough for you lot…
What’s surprising about this comment is that if Leago D Jeopardy Thulare is actually good enough to play for a side sitting in the lower half of the top division of English football, then what is he doing posting nonsense on Facebook with a cow as his profile picture? We do like the idea of Brighton and Albinos though.

Percy Tau’s spirit is with y’all…. in the name of Percy Tau Amen!
Relegation worries, what relegation worries? Thixo Sbozo thinks that Tau’s mere spirit will be enough to keep us up. In the name of Percy Tau, amen!
