Yves Bissouma voted WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for February 2019
If you want to know how bad Brighton and Hove Albion were in February 2019, then our WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month award will tell you everything you need to know.
Just 1.74% separated the top two but it is the identity of the winner that tells you what a disappointing time we had in the Premier League, with Yves Bissouma taking his first ever award despite the fact he only started one league game all month.
That came in the opening fixture as the Albion drew 0-0 with Watford. Bissouma was dropped to the bench for the other games with Burnley and Leicester City but his performances in the FA Cup wins over West Bromwich Albion and Frank Lampard’s Derby County proved to be enough to earn top spot in the poll.
Bissouma’s best showing undoubtedly came against the Rams as he claimed assists for both Anthony Knockaert and Jurgen Locadia’s goals as Brighton progressed to the quarter finals where they will face Millwall in the middle of March.
Davy Propper was just behind Bissouma in the voting, continuing his excellent form that saw him win our January award. Propper was one of the few players to come out of the league games with any credit and he rounded the month off by scoring a well-deserved first goal in Albion colours with the consolation away at Leicester.
It was another impressive cup performer who finished in third place as Knockaert began to put a difficult couple of months behind him with a string of decent showings at West Brom and Frank Lampard’s Derby which saw him collect 21.4% of the vote.
As already mentioned, the Little French Magician was on target against the Rams with an excellent finish, which clearly meant a lot to him given that his son Ilyan was over from France watching the game from the East Stand.
That all-action performance in front of his watching family proved to be enough to convince Chris Hughton to give Knockaert his first league start of 2019 away at Leicester and he duly took the opportunity afforded to him against his former club, being Brighton’s most threatening attack at the King Power Stadium.
Yves Bissouma – 25.76%
Davy Propper – 24.02%
Anthony Knockaert – 21.4%
Shane Duffy – 15.72%
Dan Burn – 10.48%
Glenn Murray – 2.62%
