Brighton 0-1 Fulham: Estupinan sits top of ratings again

For the second successive Saturday, the Albion played really well. They suffered some poor refereeing decisions. They missed countless opportunities. They did not get the three points they deserved. And Pervis Estupinan topped the player ratings, this time as it finished Brighton 0-1 Fulham at the Amex.

Despite a decent team performance, the left back was one of only two Seagulls to score a seven or above. The other being Lewis Dunk, who continues to excel as he closes in on 400 career games for Brighton.

Kaoru Mitoma and Alexis Mac Allister both scoring their lowest marks of the season so far is reflective of the Albion failing to put the ball in the back of the net and of Fulham doing a decent job in snuffing out Brighton’s two danger men.

Defeat to the Cottagers was undoubtedly a blow to the Albion’s hopes of European football – but there is still a long way to go this season. Here is how you scored the Seagulls in Brighton 0-1 Fulham player ratings.

Robert Sanchez – 6.00
A solid enough performance after last week’s howler at Crystal Palace with the very little work he had to do. Had no chance with the late Fulham winner.

Joel Veltman – 6.33
Needed to either win the tackle or foul Carlos Vinicius on halfway to prevent the break that led to the only goal of the game. Decent enough other than that moment.

Adam Webster – 6.42
Brighton were untroubled defensively and on course for a clean sheet with Webster on the pitch. Another good afternoon as he works his way back from injury.

Lewis Dunk – 7.00
Fulham’s lack of ambition allowed him to again show his range of passing in trying to get attacks going. Should have scored with a second half header from a pinpoint Pascal Gross corner and he knew it.

PERVIS ESTUPINAN – 7.08
Another all-action display down the left in which he was Brighton’s biggest attacking threat. It was therefore to concerning to see him leave the action injured, although Roberto De Zerbi has since said it was just muscle tightness and “not a big problem.”

Pascal Gross – 6.17
Not near his creative best. A couple of decent through balls and some good set piece deliveries were about the sum of his afternoon.

Moises Caicedo – 6.83
An energetic midfield display as he continues to show that there is no lingering hangover following the January transfer saga and the terrible advice of his agent. Keep putting in the work and the high-class performances and he will have earned his summer move.

Solly March – 6.83
Well marshalled by Fulham left back Antonee Robinson for the most part. March still managed to get a couple of sights of goal with one bending first half effort in particular not far away.

Alexis Mac Allister – 6.08
Presumably, one of his lowest player ratings of the season is based on the fact he failed to score in Brighton 0-1 Fulham. Hit a decent volley, drew a good stop from Bernd Leno and then curled a free kick into the stanchion in the final minutes.

Kaoru Mitoma – 6.17
Marco Silva had done his homework and just like Patrick Vieira a week earlier, double marked Mitoma out of the game. That helped Fulham right back Kenny Tete do the best defensive job we have seen on Mitoma so far this season.

Evan Ferguson – 6.50
Returned from injury with some lovely link up play. Short of clear cut chances himself, other than when blasting over the bar early in the first half.

Tariq Lamptey – 5.83
Question marks over where he was when Manor Solomon had 50 yards of space to sprint into and score the Fulham goal. Not the first time his attacking instincts have left the Albion exposed; we also saw it against Arsenal on New Year’s Eve.

Facundo Buonanotte – 6.08
A lively cameo from the 18-year-old. Curled one effort inches wide and had the ball in the back of the net, only for the offside flag to correctly go up against Deniz Undav.

Deniz Undav – 5.67
Squandered two headed chances. One was difficult and required contortion of the body but the other he should have done better with. Had he not strayed offside in the build up to the disallowed Buonanotte goal, then we would be sat here talking about a really good assist rather than those misses.
