Brighton 0-2 Liverpool: Mac Allister leads the way in player ratings

Highlights were few and far between as it finished Brighton 0-2 Liverpool at the Amex and that is reflected in yet another low set of player ratings, showcasing frustrations at a fifth consecutive defeat.

One moment though sticks in the memory, even through the 12 pints consumed to showcase how dangerous lunchtime kick offs are.

It came early in the first half and it was delivered by Alexis Mac Allister, which may explain why the Argentine midfielder topped the Brighton 0-2 Liverpool ratings.

Mac Allister appeared to have overrun the ball, only to suddenly take two Reds players out of the game with the most perfectly executed Maradona turn you will ever see.

Moments like that are all we currently have to cling onto at the minute in the midst of the Albion’s worst losing run for 15 years.

Robert Sanchez – 4.33
Needs to send Mike Dean a nice fruit basket for not showing him a red card when he kicked Luis Diaz in the face. Has been below par for a couple of weeks now but with no realistic alternative, he knows his place in the starting XI is guaranteed no matter if his performances dip. That cannot be a good thing.

Tariq Lamptey – 5.58
Dealing with Diaz and Mo Salah meant that we got to see the defensive side of his game. Still managed to get forward on a couple of occasions to cause Liverpool problems.

Joel Veltman – 5.83
A rare opportunity for him to play as a centre back in a four man defence. That a Liverpool side with so much attacking talent only scored once from open play was testament to the decent job he did.

Lewis Dunk – 6.08
His best game since returning from injury. Getting Dunk back on form is going to be vital to getting Brighton out of this rut, especially whilst Adam Webster suffers from his annual “minor knock” which leaves him on the shelf for six weeks.

Marc Cucurella – 6.00
Not exactly breaking news but he is nowhere near as effective as a left back than at left wing back. Did his defensive duties well and his discipline in reigning in his attacking instincts allowed Lamptey the freedom to get forward down the other flank.

Steve Alzate – 5.08
Having topped the player ratings at Newcastle the previous week, his inconsistency came to the fore again in a much less impressive showing against Liverpool. He was hauled at half time as Graham Potter sought to inject more creativity with the introduction of Adam Lallana.

Yves Bissouma – 5.17
A better performance compared to recent weeks, although it would be hard for him to get much worse. Covered a lot of ground and was not shy of taking possession despite Liverpool’s aggressive press under Jurgen Klopp. Wrote himself into the history books too as the first Brighton player to give his shirt to a fan in the stands at half time of a game.

Solly March – 6.08
Alongside Dunk, he earned the second highest score in the Brighton 0-2 Liverpool ratings behind Mac Allister to justify Potter’s decision to start him. Embarked on a couple of weaving runs down both flanks and came close to scoring right at the death with an effort saved by Alisson.

ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER – 6.25
That Maradona turn should be hung in The Louvre. Phwoar.

Leandro Trossard – 4.83
His loss of form is as big a reason for this losing run as Webster’s absence. Struggled to make much headway and missed Brighton’s best chance when firing over from 15 yards within a couple of minutes of the second half.

Neal Maupay – 5.67
An early first half effort had Alisson scrambling across his goal, only to go just the wrong side of the post. His hold up play was good, he brought others into the game and he looked like the Albion player who most wanted to win. A strong afternoon deserving of a better score.

Adam Lallana – 2.92
The proud owner of the new lowest ever WAB player rating. Trotted on at half time in place of Alzate and trotted off again seven minutes later with an injury. Anyone who took a little too long to enjoy their half time pint would have missed him completely.

Pascal Gross – 5.58
Replaced Lallana after the former Liverpool man’s brief dalliance against his former club. Played some nice passes and produced a wonderful Gross turn when he found himself covering at right back which earned the biggest cheer of the afternoon from the home support.

Danny Welbeck – 5.67
Added a focal point to the attack. His introduction made Brighton more of a threat, although it also coincided with Liverpool taking their foot off the gas with the game all-but won. Denied a consolation by a magnificent reaction save from Alisson.
