Forest 7-0 Brighton: Albion ratings for worst loss since 1958
Well, that could have gone better. Forest 7-0 Brighton saw the Albion suffer their heaviest league defeat since 1958 and makes for a pretty sensational set of player ratings.
Only Georginio Rutter managed to score higher than four. And we suspect that is mainly because he is such a lovely chap, rather than him doing much good at the City Ground.
Eight of the 12 Seagulls involved in the debacle rated lower than three. That sets a new record, making these officially the worst set of WAB payer ratings in terms of average score ever.
The head coach did not escape from censure, either. Fabian Hurzeler was scored -10 by one Albion supporter. Which almost seemed generous for going to a Champions League chasing opponent and naming a starting XI with five forwards and only one midfielder.
Without further ado, sit back and enjoy your Forest 7-0 Brighton player ratings.
Bart Verbruggen – 2.25
Managed to save one shot which prevented Forest edging even closer to usurping the 9-0 defeat Middlesbrough inflicted on the Albion 67 years ago. On the flip side of that, he was solely responsible for the seventh goal when passing the ball straight to a red shirt.
Joel Veltman – 2.67
Despite all the misgivings over Hurzeler naming Jack Hinshelwood as the only central midfielder, most of Forest’s goals came from crosses into the box. Tariq Lamptey bore the brunt of criticism but Veltman enjoyed a difficult afternoon too.
Jan Paul van Hecke – 2.33
Neither her nor Lewis Dunk could contain Chris Wood, who became the first ex-Albion player to score a hat-trick against Brighton since (we think) Andy Ritchie back in the 1990.
Lewis Dunk – 2.25
As bad as Van Hecke but with the added bonus of having scored the opening goal for Forest. An incredibly lunging finish to tuck away a cross moved Dunk joint-second on the all-time list of Premier League own goal scorers. Can he get four more before retirement to overtake Richard Dunne?
Tariq Lamptey – 1.42
I did enjoyed Brian Owen from The Argus tweeting midway through the first half he had just been told by a contact in Amsterdam that Ajax were not interested in Lamptey despite earlier rumoured interest. Presumably, they had a very quick change of heart based on watching goings on in Nottingham.
Jack Hinshelwood – 3.17
“Welcome back, Jack, for your first Premier League start in three months. You’re playing as a one-man midfield against three Forest players in Nuno’s 3-5-2 formation. Good luck!” Thankless task doesn’t cover it…
Yankubu Minteh – 3.58
Had the best Brighton chance of the match. He also produced a bit of good defending rarely seen from any of his teammates with a brilliant last gasp tackle in the box after tracking back. Was rewarded for that by the Albion giving away an unmarked free header from the resulting corner.
GEORGINIO RUTTER – 4.17
Topped the player ratings for Forest 7-0 Brighton. Unlikely to be something he wants to include on his CV.
Joao Pedro – 2.83
His complete lack of effort before being substituted at half time will be remembered next time he starts waving his arms at the Amex crowd during a home game.
Kaoru Mitoma – 3.08
Rejected out-of-hand the opportunity to earn over £300,000 per week by joining Al Nassr on Friday. Part of a Brighton team which loses 7-0 on Saturday. Poor Mitoma.
Danny Welbeck – 3.25
Had a curling effort tipped onto the bar by Matz Sels which might have otherwise added the smallest, modicum of respect to the scoreline.
Matt O’Riley – 2.92
Introduced alongside Diego Gomez at half to try and bolster the midfield. Forest instead added another four with him on the pitch.
Simon Adingra – 2.75
Offered a bit of a threat at the start of the second half when Brighton enjoyed their best spell. Had become completely anonymous by full time.
Diego Gomez – 3.92
Welcome to English football. His longest run out since signing from Inter Miami and one he will probably be pretty keen to forget.
Evan Ferguson – 3.83
First Brighton appearance since the 2-2 draw at West Ham United in December. And probably his last of the current campaign with a move to join the Happy Hammers on loan expected to be confirmed on the final day of the January transfer window.
