How Brighton can finish high next season
With Ben White departing Brighton FC for Arsenal, the club has suffered a heavy loss. White was brilliant for Brighton and is looking to be one of the country’s most promising defenders.
As the transfer fee was a hefty £50 million though, Brighton now has options going forward into the new season. Graham Potter will certainly be eyeing up potential transfer targets, especially as we are now in the last month of the window.
Brighton will need to look towards their existing squad to replace White and should take the opportunity to bring in some new talent that could help them secure a high finish in the coming season.
Brighton will need to also address their issue in front of goal this transfer window, a prolific goal scorer would improve their prospects immensely.
Potter has already proved he has a good eye for making useful signings – one only must look back to last year and the signing of Joel Veltman who has proved to be a versatile player.
Meanwhile, Adam Webster has signed a new five-year contract with the club in hopes of filling the void that White has left. It is understood that Brighton is on the verge of signing Spanish defender Marc Cucurella from Getafe.
Costing the Seagulls approximately £15 million, Cucurella is a great signing as it offers Brighton some versatility down the left side of the field; he can play as left-back, left-wing back or even left mid.
If the money is invested wisely, Brighton can look forward to having a much better season than their last venture, with many bookmakers backing them to finish in the top half of the table.
Some even offer bet credits as a promotion, more information about bet365 bet credits can be found here, and the fact that the bookies are expecting Brighton to finish high should be illustrative of how far they have come since their debut in the 2017/18 season.
Graham Potter is now entering his third season as manager for the club, and he has now had some time to build and shape his team. He will hope that his carefully cultivated squad will give Brighton more success, especially after the departure of Ben White.
One thing that Brighton will need in vast quantities is, of course, goals. Danny Welbeck was thought to be the answer to this, and since he was brought in last year on a one-year contract he has enjoyed average success scoring 6 goals in 24 appearances.
Potter clearly thinks there’s more in him though as he has extended his contract until the summer of next year. Welbeck could see competition though from the likes of Kaoru Mitoma, a Japanese forward who recently hit a 50% game/goal conversion rate. Whether existing players or new talent will be relied on to score goals, Brighton needs them.
Despite White leaving for Arsenal, Brighton is set to have a great season. One key caveat to this though is that Potter must utilise the transfer money to bring in strategic signings to elevate the club to the next level.
