Best Premier League away days for an overnight stay

When the 2024-25 Premier League fixtures were released, Brighton fans who follow the Seagulls on the road began the familiar task of instantly seeking out when the best away days are and deciding which matches are worthy of an overnight stay.

There are different factors to take into account, none of which normally revolve around football. This will be especially true going into the new campaign as nobody can predict how well (or badly) the Albion will perform under new head coach Fabian Hurzeler.

The 31-year-old could be a revelation who delivers as many memorable victories on the road as Roberto De Zerbi. Or he could be Sami Hyypia II. Only time will tell.

Instead, picking the best Premier League away games for an overnight stay involves distance from Brighton, the timing of the fixture, the opposition town or city and its nightlife. And if you are Deniz Undav, how good the local kebab shops are.

Taking all this into account, here are three Brighton away days in 2024-25 we would definitely consider making a weekend of.

Spurs v Brighton – Sunday 25th May 2025

The final away game of the campaign is traditionally one Brighton supporters look to for an overnight stay. And over the past decade, the fixtures computer has delivered some marvellous matches.

Newcastle last season. Aston Villa in 2022-23. Leeds United in 2021-22. Liverpool in 2017-18. Nottingham Forest in 2013-14.

Even Middlesbrough in 2014-15 was bearable if you opted to stay in Durham, Newcastle or another area of the North East.

On the face of it, 2024-25 has not offered quite the same level of excitement. Brighton will travel to Spurs for the final day of the campaign on Sunday 25th May 2025.

An overnight stay for a London away game? For a match which kicks off at 4pm on a Sunday? You must be thinking we have gone mad.

But no. Firstly, the Monday is a Bank Holiday. Secondly, it being the last day of the season means it is one of the only games which the TV companies cannot move at late notice.

Thirdly, the number of hotels in London means you can normally always find a bargain if you book far enough in advance. Fourthly, there is always something to do in London beyond the football to justify an overnight stay.

Fifthly, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is one of the best in the country and only a short hop from Liverpool Street on the train.

That means there are plenty of luggage storage London options for you to leave your bags if you cannot check into your hotel until after the game.

And sixthly, where better to celebrate Hurzeler leading Brighton to Champions League qualification than the capital?

Newcastle United v Brighton – Saturday 19th October 2025

Geography often means Newcastle is considered by Brighton fans as one of the best Premier League away days for an overnight stay.

350 miles separates Sussex from Tyneside. Six hours in a car. Longer in a coach. Let the train take the strain and you are at risk of delays and cancellations ruining even the best laid plans.

All the stress can be taken out of one of the longest journeys in English football by spending a weekend in Newcastle and experiencing the famous Geordie nightlife.

Cheap beer. Lots of brilliant pubs. An abundance of nightclubs. And who knows, you might even bump into Dan Burn in a bar as one group of Albion fans did after Brighton went down 2-1 against Newcastle in March 2023.

The Seagulls travel to St James’ Park on Saturday 19th October. The 2024-25 season will be eight games old by that point, meaning we should have a pretty good idea of what impact Hurzeler and his new coaching team have had on the Albion.

Everton v Brighton – Saturday 17th August 2024

Liverpool is some city. There is something for everyone. Scousers know how to party. Music aficionados have the Cavern Club and The Beatles to keep them occupied.

There is plenty of history from shipbuilding to immigration. Beachgoers have Crosby Beach. Horse lovers Aintree. And of course two of the biggest football clubs in England call it home.

Premier League fans have added reason to put a trip to Everton in their diary for 2024-25 as it is due to be the Toffees’ final season at Goodison Park.

The Grand Old Lady will close her doors after 131 years when Everton decamp to their new home at Bramley-Moore Dock, meaning England loses one of its most historic stadiums.

Brighton’s last ever visit to Goodison – subject to League and FA Cup draws – comes on the opening day of the campaign. Which also means it will be the venue for Hurzerler’s first match at the helm.

The Albion do not have the best of records at Goodison, winning there only twice so far. An overnight stay on magnificent Merseyside would at least numb the pain should the opening 90 minutes of the Hurzeler Era not go as well as might be hoped.
