A new potential left back from Villarreal may join the team soon
It is always a disappointment to fans of a club when one of the players leaves. And this has certainly been the case for the so-called Marc Cucurella Saga, which has been dominating news, forums and websites regarding Brighton & Hove Albion.
Marc Cucurella’s transfer was a truly fascinating and somewhat bizarre story, filled with twists and turns at every corner, enough to rival an M. Night Shyamalan film.
However, as with any film, it eventually must come to an end. And in this case, the end resulted in £62 million for Brighton and Marc Cucurella’s induction into Chelsea.
This transfer, while leaving Brighton & Hove Albion £62 million richer, also left them in need of a new left-back. And this is where Villarreal CF comes in.
Villarreal CF
For those of you who don’t follow Spanish football, Villarreal is a football club situated in Villarreal, Castellon. They compete in the La Liga, Spain’s top flight football league.
The La Liga is one of the most popular football competitions, only rivalled by the English Premier League, both of which get major coverage on numerous online sportsbooks, which provide football betting offers that will help fans of both get a bit further ahead than the competition.
Vilarreal CF has not won the La Liga title, however, they have managed to reach the semi-finals on two different occasions, and have remained in the top flight unobstructed since 2012.
When compared to some of their rivals, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Valencia, the club can be seen as quite low profile. However, they still retain their loyal fans and a spot in the top tier of Spanish football.
The Transfer
Recently, news of a deal between Brighton and Villarreal began to circulate. The rumours suggested that Brighton & Hove Albion are looking to Villarreal to replace Marc Cucurella.
Quite a few trusted sources say that the English club is looking towards Villarreal’s Pervis Estupinan as the potential replacement for the lost left back.
Supposedly, the deal is very near completion, and both clubs are attempting to come to an agreement that will equally benefit both sides.
For those that may not know, Pervis Estupinan is an Ecuadorian player, who has made a name for himself playing for the Ecuador national team.
Just recently, the Yellow Submarine went up against Real Valladolid, and won the game with a score of 3 – 0. However, Estupinan remained benched for the entirety of the game, although he was included in the squad.
According to some sources, the talks between the Spanish club and England’s Brighton have remained open for days now, and remain active. A conclusion is likely to be reached very soon.
Who is Pervis Estupinan?
If this transfer indeed manages to go through, Estupinan will be joining the English Premier League. However, this will not be his first time competing in the world’s biggest football league.
It was in 2016, when Pervis made his debut on the EPL, playing for the English team Watford, to whom he was sold by the Ecuadorian club, LDU Quito.
However, it was not in the cards for Estupinan to spend a long time playing for Watford, as he was almost immediately loaned out to the Spanish club Granada, who then moved him to their B-team in the second division.
In the following year, Estupinan would prove himself on the field, and move up to the La Liga during the Spring of 2017.
Finally, it was in 2020 that he joined Villarreal for whom he still plays today. However, this all may change soon, as Brighton & Hove Albion are looking to the Ecuadorian player to replace Marc Cucurella in their roster as a left-back.
Some closing thoughts
At the end of the day, the transfer deal is still unconfirmed. Whether Estupinan will truly replace Cucurella remains to be seen.
Many Brighton fans have enjoyed following the comedic story of Marc’s transfer from the club, however, quite a few are hoping that a lid will be put on this particular pot, and we could all finally get some closure. Whatever the case may be, the story has certainly been interesting to follow
