Amex named Best Value Stadium for Food & Drink in England 2020
The Amex Stadium has picked up yet another award for its ever growing collection after it was named as the Best Value Stadium for Food and Drink in England in 2020.
The home of Brighton and Hove Albion held off the challenges of Cheltenham Town’s Jonny-Rocks Stadium, Brentford’s Griffin Park, Morecambe’s Globe Arena and the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take the coveted accolade.
It is the first time that the Amex has made the top five of the annual awards handed out by the Football Food and Drink Association.
The Association ranks the matchday refreshments of all 91 of England’s professional clubs based on value for money and the selection on offer.
Previous winners include Plymouth Argyle and Accrington Stanley. The Amex is the first Premier League stadium to finish in first place.
Football Food and Drink Association chairman Mr Ripley Off said, “The Amex Stadium has proven itself a worthy winner by delivering value for money across it’s entire range of refreshments.”
“We were particularly impressed by the meal deals on offer. This is an area that not many football clubs are yet to truly embrace, so we consider Brighton to be industry leaders by offering supporters the chance to pick up a bag of Walkers crisps and a pint of Fosters for just £10.”
“Drinks wise, £2.20 for a bottle of Fanta which comes with no lid and therefore gets spilt all over the floor within minutes of being purchased is a bargain.”
“Tea and coffee is reasonably priced, especially since the club now forces every supporter to buy inside the stadium after banning flasks for being more dangerous than a nuclear weapon.”
“We also recognised that the Amex is one of the few stadiums in the country to sell locally brewed ale, even if it is Harvey’s which tastes like dishwater.” Unfortunately, Mr Off didn’t comment on the £3.20 cost of a bag of Starburst.
Albion Deputy Chairman Paul Barber said of the award, “We are delighted to have the Amex Stadium recognised for the undoubted value for money that we deliver from our matchday food and drink offering.”
“With the stadium set to become cashless for next season, we’ll be looking at ways that we can further improve our range at the same time as we speed up transactions.”
The Amex has previously won two gold medals and one silver from The Stadium Events & Hospitality Awards. When it first opened in 2012, it was named Best New Stadium in the world at the Stadium Business Awards, beating Turin’s Juventus Stadium into first place.
