Are Brighton in a relegation battle?
Brighton have been back in the top division of English football for the first time since 1979 back in 2018 and have been a solid mid-table since their return.
However, this season they have seemed to be off the boil and struggling for any type of form. Due to this, they are slowly being dragged into a relegation battle and below we investigate why this is.

Brighton seems to be struggling from set pieces this season and are looking tactically weak in these positions, something which is so uncharacteristic of a Graham Potter side.
Out of the 30 goals that Brighton has conceded this season, 14 of them have been from set-ups which is astonishing as it is nearly half of their goals.
Being more defensively aware in these positions and having some sort of structure from corners and free kicks would certainly be a starting point if Brighton are looking to survive the drop.

Graham Potter still doesn’t seem to know what his best starting XI is and so is still continuing to play players out of position and there this is affecting the team performance as no one seems to be settle in the side in a definite position.
Players like Ben White have been playing in central midfield (a position he has never played before in his life), Joel Veltman and Dan Burn are also registered central defenders and have been forced to play wingback positions this season whilst winger Leandro Trossard has also been forced upfront as a lone striker as they have lacked for goals this year.
Continuing on from that point, Brighton’s main issue this year has been the lack of firepower upfront as all of their strikers look as if they are struggling with confidence.
The Seagulls are a creative team and play some good build-up football under Potter but putting the ball in the back of the next after their play has been a struggle.
Potter has previously described that they had searched for a striker in the transfer window but failed to make a signing If Brighton don’t start scoring goals soon, they might be dragged into a relegation battle.
