Are the Seagulls going to be raided this January?
There’s a lot to be happy about at the Amex right now, particularly following the club’s stunning win over Chelsea at the weekend, but as we get ever closer to January, should fans also be a little worried?
While all is going swimmingly so far with Roberto De Zerbi in the dugout, a number of players are certainly catching the eye, and there is certainly a fear that the Brighton dressing room could be raided, particularly by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
Some fans believe a number of players could leave the club when the window opens, in fact, it would be a massive gamble to say at least one face won’t leave the club over the coming months.
In fact, a number of the club’s stars you could spin a roulette wheel on 777 casino and the odds would be similar for red or black. And with the club sat eighth in the Premier League a 50/50 chance of players leaving, it’s not good.
The newspapers are already having their say. According to the Express, Leandro Trossard is a target for former boss Graham Potter and his Chelsea side, with the London club looking to speed up the process of capturing him following his excellent performance against Chelsea at the weekend.
It’s believed that Chelsea were originally going to look for a summer deal for the star, but could now move that to January, with Moises Caicedo also potentially looking to switch during the winter window.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool are looking at him, with Brighton reportedly ready to sell for a staggering £85 million.
It’s a hefty price tag and one that could put the two clubs off, in what would be a hefty profit from the £4 million the club paid for him. Caicedo has stated he’s happy at Brighton, but if such an offer was to come in, the club would find it difficult to turn down.
De Zerbi may also be keen to bring players in and a boost of such volume would provide him with some spending money to help shape his side and keep them in the top half of the division.
The World Cup may provide the new manager with an opportunity to seek new talent, and a goalscorer has been rumoured to be on the wishlist for De Zerbi since his arrival at the club. That of course doesn’t come cheap either.
Jeremie Boga is also rumoured with the club, with the midfielder having worked successfully with De Zerbi over recent years and not currently having the best time at Atalanta, while a number of journalists and fans are appealing to the Brighton board to back him in January.
He’s certainly started to implement his own style on the club and a number of new additions will only enhance that.
However, January could prove make or break because if the club do lose some of their key assets without replacing them, it puts the club and De Zerbi in a very difficult position.
