Betting on Brighton to draw is a trend which has become a goldmine
Not sure if you have noticed, but Brighton draw a lot of games these days. No club in English football has recorded as may stalemates as the Seagulls since Graham Potter took over as Albion manager in the summer of 2019.
This has proven to be something of a goldmine for Albion fans who have had the wherewithal to bet on the spoils to be shared in every match so far this season.
In fact, we have pretty much given up advising any result other than a draw in the betting section of our Brighton match previews no matter who the opponents.
From rock bottom Norwich City away to high flying Arsenal at home. From a Newcastle United outfit who were winless when they rocked up at the Amex to a trip to European Champions Chelsea. From The Leeds United minus Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips to Jurgen Klopp and his mighty Liverpool side.
Brighton have drawn with them all. And if it is Crystal Palace who the Albion are facing, then double down with your stake – especially at Selhurst Park. Potter is yet to mastermind a win over the ultimate enemy in six encounters, four of which have now ended level.
Betting on Brighton has always been a semi-profitable business, even before Potter arrived from Swansea and the draw became the Seagulls’ go-to result.
The reason that you could make money out of the Albion is because bookies are not exactly known for paying too great attention to Brighton, even though we have been an established part of the Premier League elite since 2017.
How else could you explain that Aaron Connolly and DJ Jurgen Locadia were shorter odds to score against Palace in the recent Not the M23 Derby at the Amex than Alexis Mac Allister?
Mac Allister had just struck twice at Everton and was in the best form of his Albion career. Connolly and Locadia meanwhile were safely ensconced in Middlesbrough and Bochum respectively.
But even by the bookmakers’ ignorance of all things Brighton, their naivety when it comes to the Albion loving a draw is utterly bizarre.
The price has hardly deviated much from 11/5 at all this season – even as the Albion hurtle towards breaking the Premier League record of 18 draws in a single season set at various points in the early 1990s by Manchester City, Sheffield United and Southampton. And that was when top flight sides played 42 matches.
Brighton have put 12 draws on the board so far in 2022-23. If you had bet £5 on every one of the Albion’s 22 games finishing level, you would have staked £110.
Your returns from those 12 matches which finished as draws at odds of 11/5 would be £192. A tidy profit of £82 which could be put away for a rainy day or used to have some fun with online casinos, like those giving introductory offers listed on this site.
It gets even better if you were willing to gamble on a specific score line, namely 1-1. The average price available for that has been around 29/5.
£5 staked on all 22 matches ending 1-1 would have returned £272 so far. Up your stake to £25 and you could almost afford a small semi detached house on Barry Island with your winnings.
Those late equalisers against Palace, West Ham, Southampton, Chelsea, Palace (again) and Leicester City were already pretty sweet. Throw in that they were also bet savers and the elation becomes even greater.
Perhaps Neal Maupay deserves a nice bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape for his role in it? No idea what Danny Welbeck drinks but even though he is from Manchester, he certainly doesn’t seem like a Boddingtons man.

The really beauty on betting on Brighton to draw this season though comes in that you are rarely disappointed.
Gamble on the draw but witness an Albion win and you are not that bothered about losing money as Brighton have put another three points on the board towards sending us all on a European tour.
Four Premier League defeats so far means that draw backers have only been let down on four occasions, winning neither cash nor seeing the Albion victorious.
Time for your weekly reminder that only Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have lost fewer games. These really are good times to be Albion fans.
So, what have we learnt from all this? Bet on Brighton to draw every week, obviously and watch the cash roll in. I am off to look at second properties in the south of Wales.
