Brighton reveal new yellow away kit for the 2017-18 season

Brighton and Hove Albion have revealed their new away kit for the Premier League campaign with a design that pays homage to the Australian Cricket World Cup winning team of 1999.

The big launch planned for today was slightly ruined when photos surfaced of Royal Blood drummer Ben Thatcher wearing it on stage for a gig in Sydney.

The Albion’s attempts to make this seem planned rather than a Paul and Barry Chuckle style cock up have led them to say it was always due to be revealed in Australia, making it the club’s first ever overseas kit launch yesterday.

Which would be a great example of how the brand is growing, were it not for the fact that the photos of that particular gig are from last Thursday. Back to the drawing board we’re afraid, marketing team.

The shirt colour is being billed as “University Gold”. Which, to you and me, is yellow. The shorts are the same colour and it will come with black socks.

The sleeves are however what one industry expert described as “****ing rank”. Much like on the home kit, they are a combination of pin stripes of the kits two main colours. While the home sieves don’t like too bad being a light blue, here it produces a colour that has variously been described as green, grey, charcoal, baby vomit or sewage.

Whatever the colour of those sleeves, it is striking how Australian it all looks. A club spokesman refused to confirm if this was as a result of the signing of Maty Ryan or whether we could expect Alf Stewart to be appointed a club ambassador in the near future.

The choice of yello…sorry, University Gold should please traditionalists as it was also our away colours last time we debuted in the top flight.

The Albion have confirmed it will be worn for the first time in the Atletico Madrid friendly in just over a weeks time.
