Brighton’s fight for PL football
Brighton, who have yet to secure their place in the Premier League, lost 1-0 at bottom-placed Sheffield United on Saturday. Sheffield United will play in the Championship next season, it is official since a week. It’s a good thing the club is not on holiday, however, as they defeated Brighton 1-0 in a clash of the bottom two sides in the Championship.
The home side had to settle for a quick opening goal from David McGoldrick (19th, 1-0), but like Neal Maupay, author of an improbable miss from six yards out (72nd), Brighton were not in a good position to score (17 shots, 4 on target).
With five games to go, the Seagulls are still seven points clear of the first relegation zone, Fulham (18th). Is that enough to keep them up? It’s not certain, as they still have to face West Ham (5th), Manchester City (1st) and Arsenal (9th)…
It’s hard at this point to make sports betting predictions for who will be relegated. We recommend our readers to have a gander at a professional website like Betiton.

Will they lose their best player?
Asked to comment on Yves Bissouma’s future at Brighton, Graham Potter was fatalistic although deep down he hopes the player will want to continue his career in the South of England: “Like any player, we have to be honest and sensible enough to know that if a player is good enough to play at this level and has this opportunity, then we shouldn’t be afraid of that. There is obviously a consequence to that in terms of transfer fees etc. It’s out of my control,” the Seagulls manager said, reports the Daily Express.
Graham Potter believes the former Lille man still has plenty of room for improvement: “He has the quality to play in midfield in any game in the world. What’s exciting for Yves is that he can still improve. He is not at the top. But he has incredible potential and incredible talent. At the same time, Yves is happy. He loves his football, he loves his life. He knows that he is in an environment here where people care for him, look after him and want the best for him,” he added.
Very strong competition for Bissouma
This season, Yves Bissouma has appeared 30 times in the Premier League (1 goal – 0 assists). He is under contract with Brighton until June 2023 and is valued at €17m by Transfermarkt.
However, the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City could have to spend twice as much to secure the services of the Mali international (14 caps – 3 goals).
The various football leagues are becoming increasingly tough. To win, English teams need to have the best possible composition. In these circumstances, the departure of some promising players can be a great handicap.
Recently, there were rumours that Tariq Lamptey could leave Brighton for Arsenal. Fortunately, it is only rumours. The 20-year-old has extended his contract until 2025.
With three assists in 11 Premier League games, Lamptey is a valuable player. And with the extension of his contract, he could be sold for a high price in the next market.
Former Arsenal player Danny Welbeck joined Brighton & Hove Albion. Last October, he signed for the team for one season. In the games he played, he made a strong impression on the coach.
Welbeck was an excellent player and was always able to score even when the situation was complicated. In the middle of the season, the 30-year-old left the club for a while.
This was a blow to the coach, who appreciated his performances. He was quick to praise Welbeck and his teamwork. He would therefore like to find a solution to keep him at Brighton for longer. A story to follow.
