Brighton’s games with West Ham and Cardiff moved for television
Sky and BT Sports have announced their televised games through October and November with two Brighton and Hove Albion matches being selected for live coverage.
They are West Ham United’s visit to the Amex and the first ever Premier League meeting between the Albion and Cardiff City. Both games will be live on Sky, with BT declining to pick Chris Hughton’s side during the third and fourth months of the Premier League season.
The Hammers visit will now take place on Friday 5th October with an 8pm kick off. The Albion will have fond memories of taking on West Ham on that time and day of the week, having produced their best away performance of the season in 2017-18 when winning 3-0 at the London Stadium.
Brighton were equally impressive last time the two sides met at the Amex, running out 3-1 winners in February. Jose Izquierdo in particular will be rubbing his hands with glee at the prospect of being able to showcase his talents against West Ham live in front of the nation. The Colombian winger scored Goal of the Season candidates in both our meetings last year.
The Albion’s trip to Cardiff meanwhile will now kick off at the earlier time of 12.30 on Saturday 10th November. It will be a busy day in the Welsh capital as Wales take on Australia at the Millennium Stadium that evening. That was already making travel to the imaginatively named Cardiff City Stadium look like something of a nightmare, even before the prospect of trying to arrive there before 10am.
For those rugby fans out there or those who just like drinking a pint of another man’s piss, there are still tickets available for the game against the Wallabies. Having previously done a football-rugby double header when the Albion played QPR at home followed by a mad dash to Twickenham afterwards for Harlequins v Gloucester, we would advise anyone brave enough to do both games in one day to prepare for a three day hangover at the very minimum.
Those who do make the journey will be hoping for a better showing than last time we played a lunch time kick off away against the Bluebirds. That was in February 2016 when Russell Slade’s Cardiff hammered the Albion 4-1 to put a dent in our automatic promotion hopes.
Brighton are already set to be shown on television four times through August and September with the home games with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur and the trips to Liverpool and Southampton picked for live coverage.
