Ex-Seagulls stars to keep an eye on

Brighton are up and running in the 2024-25 season. Likewise the many ex-Seagulls players who left the club in the summer transfer window and are now starring for their new clubs across Europe.

With top online casinos sites and sports betting operators offering the opportunity to play on leagues and markets across world football, we’re taking a look at some of the ex-Brighton players who might just pique your interest in the upcoming season.

Billy Gilmour – Napoli

The young Scot was a popular player at the Amex and his departure was not greeted warmly by the fans. However, Gilmour has secured a pretty impressive move to a European giant.

Napoli, lest we forget, were Serie A winners little more than a year ago, and the combative midfielder will hope he can revive the club’s fortunes after a disastrous 2023-24 campaign. Settling in alongside fellow countryman and fellow new arrival Scot McTominay should help.

Deniz Undav – VfB Stuttgart

Deniz Undav spent the 2023-24 season on loan at VfB Stuttgart and had an impressive campaign, striking up a lethal partnership with Serhou Guirassy that propelled the club to a second-place finish in the Bundesliga, ahead of Bayern Munich.

Undav scored 18 goals in that campaign (Guirassy notched 28), and while his fellow strike partner has moved on (to Dortmund), Undav has made his move to Stuttgart permanent, joining for £26.7m.

It’s a shame the player’s time on the south coast never really worked out as clearly there is a goalscorer there, despite the raw stats of only five goals in 25 Premier league appearances. A recent goal in the Bernabeu is testament to that.

Pascal Gross – Borussia Dortmund

One player who has left the Amex a bona fide legend is German attacker Pascal Gross. The player featured 228 times for the Seagulls, scoring 30 times and adding a further 45 assists.

Gross is a player who was no doubt one of the catalysts for this unprecedented level of success the club has been achieving in recent years, and he will be sorely missed by all associated with the club after spending seven years on the south coast after arriving for a paltry £3m from Ingolstadt.

In terms of raw value for money, it doesn’t get better than that. Many Seagulls fans will be following the player’s fortunes at Dortmund, who he has joined on a two-year deal.

Marc Leonard – Birmingham City

Young Scot Marc Leonard may have dropped down two divisions in joining Birmingham City, but it is a move that will surely see the midfielder moving up the leagues before long, with the Blues spending an unprecedented amount for a third-tier club this summer.

The fee of £590k is nominal for a player who only featured twice for the Brighton first team, but this is a young player to keep an eye on as Birmingham plot a return to the Championship and beyond.

Adam Lallana – Southampton

Veteran Adam Lallana enjoyed some good times as a Seagulls player after joining from Liverpool four years ago.

The Englishman may have only scored four goals but he featured in a number of different positions over the course of 104 appearances for the club, and his versatility made him
an important squad player at a time when Brighton have been competing on multiple fronts.

A return to his boyhood club is a dream move for the 36-year-old ex-England international, and we’ll be keeping an eye on his progress as he looks to help Southampton secure their position in the Premier League after getting promoted in the 2023-24 campaign.
