FFS Murray. Glenn Murray arrested on suspicion of tax evasion
FFS Murray. Brighton and Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray has been arrested on suspicion of tax evasion according to a report on a national newspaper website.
The Sun broke the news at 10.30am this morning, saying that Murray and his wife had both been arrested while their home in the city had been searched by HMRC yesterday.
They seized a number of items including computers in an investigation into a suspected £1.1m tax fraud.
A HMRC spokesman was quoted as saying, “A husband and wife have been arrested as part of an HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) investigation into a suspected £1.1 million tax fraud.
“HMRC officers arrested the man and woman at a residential property in the Brighton area yesterday morning.
“The man was arrested on suspicion of evading Income Tax and VAT, and cheating the public revenue.
“The woman was arrested on suspicion of evading Income Tax, and cheating the public revenue.”
Both Murray and his wife were released while investigations remain ongoing.
Lionel Messi meanwhile reacted with dismay to the news, telling WeAreBarcelona.com that he was “disappointed beyond belief” to have lost his status as the best footballer in the world to have been arrested for tax evasion.
Murray now takes top spot on that list owing to the fact that, unlike Messi, he has done it on a cold November in Swansea, scoring the Albion’s most recent away goal in a 1-0 win at the Liberty Stadium.
