It’s Brighton Pride this weekend – and some of the Albion’s new “followers” aren’t happy

It’s Pride this weekend and Brighton and Hove Albion are getting into the spirit by updating the club badge on their Facebook page to one featuring a rainbow flag.

Unfortunately, some of the Albion’s latest “followers” aren’t happy about it. At the time of writing, 236 people have used the “dislike” option to express their opinion on the clubs decision to support the city’s annual event celebrating the LGBT community. It’s rising all the time.

Since signing Alireza Jahanbakhsh from AZ Alkmaar, the Albion’s social media followers have been swelled by thousands of Iranian football fans.

Percy Tau has bought in South African followers. There’s been an upsurge in Romanian’s in the wake of Florin Andone’s arrival. Great news for boosting the clubs profile across the globe. Bad news it seems for diversity and tolerance.

Virtually all of the haters of the rainbow badge hail from Iran, South African and Romania. They’ve also decided to share their ancient opinions via the comments, some of which are so backwards it’s hard to know where to start. Here are some of the best:

The bad news for all our new Iranian, South African and wherever else fans is that Brighton and Hove is the gay capital of Britain. It’s one of the most tolerant cities in the world and the football club is a huge part of the community – yes, even the LGBT one. The Albion are even official partners of the Pride Celebrations.

In Britain, we don’t treat homosexuals with imprisonment, capital punishment or even death. If we did, then half of Brighton’s best pubs up St James’ Street wouldn’t be in business. (Good pubs aren’t the only reason we don’t imprison gay people).

While the supporters of Jahanbakhsh, Tau and Andone might want to stone any gay people to death or think “faggots have no place in football”, we at Brighton welcome them with open arms. If you don’t like that, then please don’t follow our football club. We won’t miss you.

Happy Pride everyone!

If you’d like to go and show your support for the Albion’s new Pride badge, make sure to like it on Facebook.

This is a disgrace. Whether straight or bi, people deserve love. Love is about loving someone for who they are and what they mean in your life. You think gay and straight people choose to feel something for the opposite or same sex? It’s the feeling of that gender or person that makes one happy. Like people who hate children and those that like them, or someone that hates cats and like dogs.. You gonna judge them .. Probably, but you still wouldn’t mind supporting them in their daily lives.
