Jamie Murphy joins Rangers for £1m
Brighton and Hove Albion winger Jamie Murphy is set to complete a £1m move to Glasgow Rangers after passing a medical with the Ibrox club.
Murphy is a life long Rangers fan and having found himself down the pecking order as fifth choice winger behind Anthony Knockaert, Solly March, Jose Izquierdo and Izzy Brown, he makes the move to Scotland in search of regular first team football.
The wide man joined the Albion from Sheffield United for £1.5m in August 2015 and played a huge part in the clubs promotion challenges in 2015-16 and 2016-17, making 83 appearances for the club and scoring 10 times.
His only league start so far this season came away at Leicester City with Knockaert and March injured and Izquierdo yet to sign. Murphy’s last game for the club came as a substitute in the 1-0 win against Newcastle United in September.
Although an important player in the Albion’s promotion winning team, the best moment of his two and a half year spell at the Amex came last season when the stadium announcer got in a complete muddle, confusing Murphy and Glenn Murray and announcing that Jamie Murray was coming on as a substitute.
Given that Murphy was a solid Championship performer, he should thrive at Rangers due to the fact the SPL is the equivalent standard of Sussex Sunday League Division Four.
We wish him all the best.
