Lack of transfer links is music to Brighton’s ears

The Brighton bandwagon continued to gain momentum, after a dramatic injury time penalty from Alexis Mac Allister shot Albion back into the top six.

European football looks a near certainty after the deserved victory over Manchester United. Bookmakers.tv tell us Roberto De Zerbi’s men are now no bigger than 1/3 to secure the top six finish their season long performances have deserved, although a Champions League spot appears to be a step too far, at 16/1.

Either way, a season in any European competition will mean Albion need to strengthen the current squad further. Both Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo are being strongly linked with moves away from the Amex, most likely to Liverpool and Arsenal respectively, so midfield options could well be the primary target.

The good news is that betting sites and papers alike are barely linking Brighton with anyone. Yes, Joao Pedro’s move looks close, but other than that there’s very little for the media to hold on to, with a 12/1 move for James Ward-Prowse one of very few established Premier League stars to be mentioned.

That should be music to the ears of Albion who are one of very few Premier League clubs that can trust their board to get on with signing quality players away from the glare of the media spotlight, whilst the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea hog the spotlight.

The future continues to look rosy, and more and more players will be keen to join and follow in the steps of Pervis Estupiñán, Alexis Mac Allister, Kaoru Mitoma et al.
